Avoiding Duplicate Content for similar products

Hi all,

I wanted to put together a website dedicated to a certain niche that has 1000's of products. The problem i'm having is trying to figure out how to avoid duplicate content when you are describing a simple item over and over again.

This isn't my niche, but it is an example I came up with: sports hats. If I wanted to promote sports hats, I would want to have a page for each team. I would want to describe what materials the hat was made of, what sizes are available, cost, etc. The problem is that the content would almost be the same across all hats with the exception of the team name.

Just curious if his would be considered duplicate content, or if anyone has any suggestions how to make it not considered duplicate.

    I know it is duplicate content however I do not think it penalizes you, it only reduces the amount of worth a page could have. Maybe that is a bit confusing...

    anyhow, you could actually write content for each page that is specific and unique to each page and then add the duplicate content to that. This way there is unique content on each page to make it worth more and you have the duplicate content to describe the product.

    Maybe that is not a good solution although it is a solution. I would just not worry so much about the duplicate content but maybe someone knows a good way referencing the content so that it is not considered duplicate however I do not think they would share that here.

    In my opinion you can write unique content for each different variant of cap...

    page1
    "A cap" is the cap of champions, perfect for baseball and blah blah blah
    page2
    "B cap" the perfect choice for runners, blah blah blah blah
    and just have a link in each of them to a separate page that lists all the specs which are the same for all of them....
