    For my own websites, I always use totally original content, and I write it myself.

    For backlinks, I will spin articles I've written or outsource the work.

    I do not scrape content, though nor have my outsources do so, because I feel that "scrapping" is just another way to say "stealing".

    Yes, use your own written content for you main websites, and for microsites or supporting sites you can use spun article.

    You can use in which you are comfortable but don't use syndicate or RSS feed content for your main site. You can use spun content in article marketing and micro blogging sites.
