Does it really come down to who has the money?

Hey all so I've been reading and reading constantly on the forum. My question is if you have the money, can you literally beat anyone? For instance, investing your money into all types of networks, contextual backlinks, edu, high PR links, directories, programs etc. etc in terms of backlinks and SEO.

I know there are a lot of free ways to create backlinks, but now I'm thinking that can only take you so far. I'm guessing that's where keyword research comes in and basically finding that niche that not a lot of people invested their time and money in order to rank.

Therefore, is it really just about who has the money, and is willing to invest that money to rank their sites (especially the competitive ones)? And even then, I think a good amount of money is involved when it comes to ranking a keyword that's not too competitive. I know this is a business, and any type of business should be invested. But now the way I look at things, it seems like the more money you have the better chances you have in terms of ranking. Along with proper plan and execution.

I've had the same thought before.

Unfortunately, from what I've seen, this does seem to be the case... :/

Pretty much. Obviously you have to know what you're doing, but yes, someone who has a lot of money to throw into (smart) backlinks will usually do better.

With any site I build, I always ask myself, "How much of this am I willing to reinvest to maintain or increase my rankings?"

Simple fact, if you want to rank high for tough keywords then you need to leverage established websites and that in most cases will cost money.

I can't believe the amount of time I spent creating articles, building links manually, when I could have paid $50 for a good links/article on a strong website. Live and learn...

I guess it goes back to if you don't have money then do some gigs on fiverr, do a 9-5, go collect some cans and whatever it takes to make money. Once you have that money, you invest it into online marketing.

Damn, so even if I'm spending $70 a month to rank a site; if there's someone out there investing $300 a month for that same site, they'll obviously beat me. Assuming they did everything correct with on-page SEO and so forth.

It's not directly about money, it's about how much work goes into the site.

If you spend $10 per day on the right off-page work, while adding 10 pieces of well written content each and every day, you would certainly outrank someone with 1 page of poorly written and optimised content but spent $50 per day on low quality backlinks.

The big guns might already saturate the well-searched keywords within your niche, but while they are #1 for a keyword with 100,000 searches, you could hit #1 for 20 different keywords with 5,000 searches each, and for a lot less money.

Essentially - can you compete directly (and using the same business model) with someone with way more resources than you? Not really.

But - can you compete within the same niche as several other competitors with far more resources than you? Absolutely!

You have flexibility, creativity, and the ability to quickly adapt to new changes on your side! Ranking high in Google isn't the only way to pick up traffic, you know!

    Good luck in your ventures!

Thanks man. You nailed it with "Ranking high in Google isn't the only way to pick up traffic."

I need to find a way to get more traffic besides SEO.

        Twitter
        YouTube
        Facebook
        PPC

These are four sources for traffic that instantly spring to mind. Pick one (only one!) of these, or any other potential source, and work at it until you either:
        -are successfully getting traffic
        or
-are 100% sure that it will never work out

        Best of luck!
