Google says that paid links are against the rules but is BMR considered paid links or is it something else?

Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks

All SEO services are considered paid links IMO ,

as long as google doesn't find a footprint it's okay.

If you know what i mean.

Yes, BMR would be considered "paid links" by Google.

Absolutely BMR is "paid links" as far as Google is concerned. Google wants unique and original content. If you want good back-linking and not get knocked by Google Panda, you must provide good content.

This is a tough question, but lets use some logic: You pay to get BMR links, therefore... they are paid links! Phew, that was hard.

Yes, because you paid for it rather than being linked to 'organically' by virtue of your content.

Everyone pretty much sums it up, but yeh BMR are definitely paid links since you pay for this service.

By the path of logic - yes. For example, ezinearticles author box links are not paid, coz you don't pay ezineArticles. You can pay for the article to be written, but the link remains natural and still a good one in the Google's eyes.

    Great question, OP.

The answers given are pretty much what I was thinking as well, but let me play Devil's Advocate here.

    - Would BMR NOT be considered paid links if I didn't...well...pay? If it were free would it not be considered a paid link?
    - Are guest posts considered paid links, do you think? What if I don't pay to put the guest post up and I'm asked? What if I did pay?

Great reply guys! Paid links are "ok" as long as Google doesn't know they're paid, since "paid links" are officially prohibited.

The difference between BMR links and guest post/other paid links on individual blogs is FOOTPRINTS (I could also add to this that Google most likely put their time to counter paid links from big network like BMR than individual blogs).

Anyway, BMR links are "ok" (meaning they do work for now :rolleyes as long as google don't find a way to penalize all links from this network, and this network only. Usually you'll see some blogs get penalized, but as long as BMR does its homework and minimize its footprint, their whole network should be safe, but there again it's a cat&mouse game with Google so as long as people using BMR are aware of that and don't 100% rely on these links, they'll be find.

Hope it clears things out and thanks TryBPO to bring that discussion here

They are basically a way to drible the system, that's why Google hates them.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.
