I have actually heard the reverse. Why do yo say that? In Germany for example MOST authority sites, banks/gov'ts and such, all have hyphens.

About the hyphens, have you heard of the story of the domain names of Experts Exchange and Pen Island? If not, try making a domain using those brand names, and not using their keywords. That's what a hyphen is for.

About the keyword rich domains, which would you rather click? YouTube.com, or FreeVideosOnline.com?

Yes, there diffrent and Google say it in A video.
The second one google will see the the keywords in the first one the search engine wont see any keywords.
I sure about it because a week ago i saw a video the Matt from Google say it very clear!

So hyphens work better when it comes to ranking? But I'd rather have a quality domain name only because I'm going to be offering my own product for this site, and not just a affiliate or adsense linking site.

So If I was to let's stick with the lose belly fat niche, had a domain name called

xyzbellyfat.com which is totally irrelevant to something someone would type in a address bar, would it make it hard to be first page in google? Or does it have to be a word that would come up in google keyword search tool?

I would make a good brandable domain name.

Just make something up.

Look at web hosting for an example.

bluehost
hostgator
hostmonster etc...

And then...

Make supporting websites with ugly domain names to rank for different keywords.

Make your official website a long con.

If you get what I mean.

If you care about the seo choose 2-the main keyword or main keywords and make sure you have it on the domain with "-" between each word.
I have a locksmith website in new so my domain is speed-locksmith-nyc
(the locksmith-nys wasn availbale)
In this examle the domain locksmithnyc was not good in term of seo.
Its have to be with space - "-" between each word.

Important, but not the most important factor. Don't use "-"s. Also try to get an exact match keyword. But with off-page SEO and on-page SEO you can rank domains like fish.com for a dating keyword like "dating", etc. Even if the words don't match up. Looking at yours, didn't read it all first, but go with the one with no "-"s. They don't work well.

In truth, using keywords in domains can definitely help, BUT it's not the end of the world if you don't include them. In the end, a search engine will consider other factors and you CAN be on page one even for a domain name that doesn't describe your site's content. For example, you could rank "CrappyDay.com", a site that consists of inspirational quotes, if you play your cards right (on-site SEO, etc).

For examples of this, look at ranked authority sites like "TuCows" and others. Yes, these sites are much older, but nevertheless they have proven that keywords on a domain name are not super mega important. Helpful? Yes. Critical? No.

If you have the keyword (or at least the bigger part of it!) in the domain name, it would be VERYYY easy to rank for it.. Most of the on-page techniques are to have a lot of weight for this keyword.. Only the domain name gives you about 40% of the weight you should have to "finish" with A++ your attempt to reach THE BEST on-page optimization... You should choose it VERY CAREFULLY!

I have also agree that using hyphen will give good result from SEO point of view. But here i have viewed that some member have said that not use hyphen in domain name. i am really confused that why we should not use in this manner.

I will advise you to choose the domain without hyphens as it is more preferred. It will be favorable for you if you choose simple domain without and hyphens and it will be easy for you to promote that website.

Book that domain and make proper onpage for website and use those keywords which your domain name consists for both onpage and offpage as well.

I am sharing my personal experience. Domain name is very important for SEO & Ranking Purpose. For Branding purpose, you can go with company name domain, but to increase ranking and selling, you need to go with keyword rich domain.

Also you may have heard about .com and .info domain, i want to clear that .com domains are ranking better than .info domains. If you need traffic, ranking and selling, ignore .info domains.

Exact match domain names do give you a little extra kick, but you should be fine doing without it as well. Just add a prefix or suffix to the keyword for your domain and you should be fine.

Domain names are important to the good results of a site. If the domain name is relevant to what the site is all about, the possibilities of getting more traffic improve as in that situation the domain name will be extra search engine friendly. Bear this in mind you require to select your domain name with care.

I registered a .org emd last monday and put up three pages of 600+ word content. Google still hasn't even indexed it, but it's currently at position 12 for the EMD keyword in both yahoo and bing.

It's also sitting at #10 and #4 in yahoo and bing for a different similar keyword. So go figure.

If you want to optimize your site for search engines then it is extremely important that you have to make a proper keyword research for domain name. The best domain name is one that people can easily remember it, if they remember it then they are more likely to come back to your site. So, your domain name must contain keyword, keep it short and easy to spell, popular search term, use unusual but familiar words

In long-term, it doesn't matter what your domain is. In the first few months, it does help to tell Google what your site is all about and get ranked as fast as possible for your keyword. That's why you see all the people with 50-100 micro niche and site flippers going after EMDs. They want to get their site up and running as fast as possible.

In the long term, after off-site and on-site optimization is properly done on your site, the words in your domain will not play a role in your ranking.

Domains are very important.Exact match domains are more powerful,However you can also rank a site without the keyword in it.

I recommend to go without the hyphens by adding "plurals" ite or x words at the end of the Exact keyword.

I've noticed that some domains with EXACTLY the keywords in Google search don't necessarily rank as well as others with less exact names. Perhaps it also depends on the site content and links, other factors etc.

Take that a step further. One of the things that I've noticed in doing keyword research is that folks ranking for competitive terms don't usually have an EMD. Google "life insurance" and you won't see lifeinsuranceDOTcom anywhere. Ignoring that NWM ignorantly has that pointing at their site, a lot of times the EMD is either taken by a squatter or it doesn't have nearly enough of the "other stuff" to rank well for it. All things being equal the EMD would have an advantage, but it matters even less now than it did even a few months ago.

Domain name is not important. None of my domains are EMD (and one is even a .info) and they all rank incredibly well for their targeted terms. Almost every review that I post turns up on page one within minutes.

Domain names are important because they give face to your site. They give personality and image just like an advertisement. Ideally, domain names should speak about the contents of the site. They are short yet very powerful words that help your target market remember your site. Guess what, they are important because they can serve as cash cows. I think you should a choose a Domain name without hyphen. Because with hyphen Domain name is not better then without hyphen Domain name.

i think it helps with the overall seo strategy but it i found that its benefit lies in recognition and in relating your domain with your products of services by the client. I would much rather have a site pillow.com relating to pillows then duckfish.com relating to pillows..and as a consumer i would more easily recognize it too.

For the past couple of years having kw in domain it used to have effect on the ranking unfortunately with all those changes that Google doing looks like that links and kw domain will have less and less effect on search engine ranking...

Having keywords in the domain name will help in the inital phase of building the site and getting it ranked.

After that, I believe it all depends on your content and offsite SEO. I've seen many sites with unrelated words in the domain names and yet ranked very high. So it's all about providing valuable content and user experience that makes the cut.

When people use EMD's (exact match domain names) they usually mess it up cause Google "hates" EMD's with all the bells and whistles: poor backlink diversity, wrong link velocity, too much On Page SEO, etc etc...

In fact EMD's are great if you just keep them (almost) untouched SEO wise...

And Google prefers a clever domain name like "weightlosscircle" or "weightlossfanatics", instead of a spammy one like "lose-weight-really-fast-and-naturally.com"....

Very true! It is almost easier to rank with a quirky name (and quality content) than with a EMD.

Just get a dumb name that has nothing to do with your service and watch it get to the top of google.
