Buying expired high PR domains for blog netwok

Hi All

I am looking (and bidding) on domains via godaddy to build my own blog network - i would appreciate comment from someone experienced in this area so i dont buy 'duds'!!

My process (i bought a great wso , but just double checking) to check potential high PR domains available via auction is:

1. check info:domain.com to ensure no redirects faking pr
2. check age / pr etc
3. In Site Explorer - Majestic SEO check details, top backlinks etc - Question - what if site has 'Redirects:'??? Is that an issue??

4. Have a look at backlinks in detail via seo spyglass - look at pr of links , anchor , do follow and diversity

thats about it - what else should i check?

also - i am looking to buy pr3/pr4/pr5 , can someone experienced give me a rough idea of what i should be paying? any other 'safe' places to buy from?

thanks in advance

cheers

Marty

In SpyGlass, you should also be checking if the links are still alive.

bought a PR 3 domain for $15 but not from auction. got it from a friend of mine. Used to involved in godaddy auction but just can't afford the price. Man, in the autioon the bidding can go really wild. used to compete in a valid PR3 domain but someone is willing to pay up to $30 or more so I just let it go. I know domain prize is not only determined by the PR but also the name. Still, I don't want to invest that much for a domain. Anyway, if you look for lotta valid PR 3 domain, you can PM me. Think my friend still have a few on the stock.

A PR 3 for $30 bucks would be a steal. They usually go for more than $60.

man, my friend managed to get a PR 4 domain for only $25. No BS, unfortunately he used it not wise enough. He just used it to sell some permanent blogroll links.

@marty: I'm sorry, I can't PM you. My posts are still under 50. But I've just called up my friend and he said that he ran out of PR 3 domains. I will let you know when they're available again.

Ascertaining if the domain has an unnatural links detected penalty is tricky however you may be able to guess by checking the links in seo majestic and then checking the rankings of the main keywords, For example if the main keyword is 'blue widgets' and this is ranking -50 then the site may have received an unnatural links penalty.

If you have a experience with backlinks, keywords and the unnatural links penalty you should be able to have a good guess by just looking at the backlink profile.

For all that is holy please ignore this offer. The quickest way to get burned is to buy from a contact on a forum known by no one who has great "Deals" on high PR domains. Unfortunately people think the only scam out there is faked PR. People have lost thousands upon thousands of dollars on DP for just that reason.

There's no money in arriving to the game this late IMHO.
Um most - there are BILLIONS of websites on the web. I have been reaching out to scores of people with truly private networks (they don't rent links out to the public but use it for their own sites and a few clients) and so far I have found one person who lost a few domains - ones he said he had set up early when he didn't follow certain precautions).

Anyway If theres no money in arriving late to the game then why are you at this forum? Why bother with internet marketing when the internet has been around since the 80s? You are late to the game - get out.

For buying expired domain I would highly recommend Register Compass, best tool out there to find Expired, Deleted and Expiring Domains it show age of domain, backlinks, real PR as well if it's redirects fake PR but still you need to make sure that expired domain is not penalized by search engine otherwise it would be worthless buying ...

      thanks

Well you can do basic search to see if a domain name is penalized for example:

        site:www.your-domain.com

        site:your-domain.com

What do you see when doing that Google search?

If you get at least a single result for the above search, your not penalized.

to be sure install Google webmaster tool add site and confirm if there is any suspicious activity for particular domain you will receive message if Not you are good to go, just make sure that after you delete your site from webmaster tool or any other Google tool remove site and shut down account to prevent Google to tracking down your site...Good Luck...

If it is penalized by Google then the "info:domain.com" should yield no results if it has been deindexed.

I'd be surprised if that doesn't hit $200 or even more. Its hard to give you prices Marty because they just recently spiked due to networks trying to get back domains they have lost. On Godaddy you could pick up a decent PR4 for $120-$150 with a good amount of solid link a few weeks back. Same domain would probably fetch you in the $300s now.

Hopefully the WSO you bought covers more than godaddy (unfortunately alot I have seen don't). Because of its setup (it has a straight anyone can bid at anytime auction setup) it has a more circus atmosphere over there now and things can get bid up. Namecheap for example is different - when the auction ACTUALLY really starts (can be confusing because its a two step process) only a certain group can bid so its possible to get some great deals here and there.

I really only recommend Godaddy for cheap PR2s , some Pr3s and the occassional PR4s but higher I concentrate elsewhere. I might even change that recommendation because nowadays even a PR4 with good link profile are being bid out of this world into the realm of PR5 money.

        That's so true, lulz!

I find namejet auctions to be quite good for PR2's and PR3's... much better prices than godaddy, plus save huge on taxes when buying loads.

A good PR4/5/6 will always go for a lot of money though, no matter what site (with a few rare exceptions).

It's important not to bid until the very last minute, that way you stand a chance of getting good PR3's for a decent price. Anything above PR3 normally doesn't go unnoticed by other bidders.

Also, don't get scared if there are a few old bids already placed - most of them are backorders and most likely not monitoring the auction at all.

Best way to find these deals (that I've found) is to get a registercompass subscription and use their filters/tracking. Cuts down auction research time x50.

My guess is that it'll go for around $250-$400 (depends on the actual domain - is it a .com, is it "brandable", is it suitable for a blog..?). That's if it's a really good domain with aged backlinks, especially if it has .edu and .gov links.

Don't forget that with Godaddy you have to pay taxes on top of everything, which adds a lot to the final price.

I've been buying up high quality domains with loads of old backlinks and at least 5 years age (mostly more) over the last couple of months. I don't care much about PR, mostly go for PR2's and PR3's. On average over the last month I paid $136 per domain. But these are good, "brandable" domains that I turn into magazine or blog type websites for my own niche network.

Some other prices that I've paid:

    1. Perfect niche PR5 domain with thousands of aged backlinks, huge authority - $1400+. I'm building a big site on this one.
    2. Great PR4 domain - niche specific, lots of old backlinks, good age - paid $540 and building a site on it as well.

^^ both domains are .com's, one is 10 years old and the other one 8 years. Both in my niche, but not keyword stuffed. I don't buy PR4's+ for blog networks, but that's just my preference.

    Marty,

One point you have forgotten to add to your initial list is checking whether or not the domain was dropped. You can do that at the whois domain tools. If the domain is old and was dropped years ago, that may not affect the PR. But as a rule of thumb, I stay away from dropped domains.

Also, if you bid on short domain names (and .com) that are brandable as Bnet points out, you may end up paying a lot more since most professional domainers go after those domains.

Nah man, domains get dropped and then re-registered by simple people (non SEOs) all the time. Just don't build crap networks, that's all.

What they could do is completely devalue old backlinks after change of ownership. That's possible, but then there would be problems with legit site sales. Also extremely resource heavy (yes, even for Google).

Maybe Google is tracking the 'domain auctions' somehow. They are a registrar, so they have more info than most on domains.

Like you said, though, many legit site transfers happen every day. Still, Google isn't known for being shy about collateral damage.

My thought process has been you can hunt around for the greatest deals or you can find awesome domains and just snag them. It might cost you a few extra bucks but its well worth it. The time put in to scour everywhere for that "awesome deal" could be better spent building great links. I found a guy a few weeks back selling amazing PR 3's + PR 4's. Im talking contextual .gov and .edu links from 5-10 years ago coming to them that nobody will ever take down. 1 site was actually an official page for a military base thats been out of operation for about 3 years.

They were probably about $40-50 over valued and they were expensive in general but the domains were great. I bought 10 of them. Took a keyword with 14,000 exacts that i'd been sitting on page 2 for. Threw up only 5 links on 5 of these domains and have been number 1 for the keyword ever since. I made back my money for overpaying in 3 days. Just keep that in mind.

    Hi Marty,

The most important thing right now in buying a high PR domain is to check whether the VALIDITY is real or not. I have heard that there are a lot of scams out there in dealing with PR domains, that now you must go to archive.org, type the domain name you are interested in, and see if there's no redirection history. That's absolutely important.

      Thanks Calvin,

Where exactly do i check this at archivedotorg??
Is it: domainiamthinkingofbuying.com has been crawled 13 times going all the way back to March 10, 2008. ??

      I have bought about 5 domains sofar , 3 x pr3 and 1 x 4 and 1 x pr2. Will be buying more over the next few weeks.

What i notice is that the obvious 'duds' or fakes attract very low bids -I a buying via godaddy auctions, eg where the info:domainname shows another domain name.

      Thanks

Building a blog network doesn't have to be expensive at all! You can get some great domains on the cheap from auction sites. I've just launched a WSO in my signature that shows all expiring domains from various networks with backlinks and loads of social factors (tweets, facebook shares, +1s etc)

Good PR4+ domains always go for a lot of money. Good:

      1. 3+ years of age.
      2. Diverse backlink profile. AGED backlinks that won't be removed anytime soon.
      3. Lots of backlinks from high PR pages.
      4. Great if the domain has REAL .edu or .gov links pointing at it (from "resource" pages, etc).
      5. Domain name makes sense. I don't buy ****ty domain names, because I build proper websites for my private network.

By the way. How do you use these domains? Let's say that you buy a pr3 domain and place a wordpress on it. Would you write an article and then put your link in that, or would you put your link on the front page/blog roll?
I'm just thinking that if you put it in a post, this post will not necessarily have the pr of the main page, but on the other hand there is a limit on how many links you would place on the frontpage/blogroll.

    Any thoughts?
