Okay, so Google has given us all a big kick up the a*** by penalizing uninformative sites that offer no value to the user other than flogging them a dodgy affiliate product.

We have seen our rankings decline, our adsense accounts bottom out and affiliate commissions hit an all time low.

I say - about time too..

Naively when first putting sites together, my game plan back then, was to provide quality to the user where they would actually learn something. I mean, I done my keyword research, provided some well written content, then sat back waiting for everyone to turn up.

No one came!

I mean, I was monetizing them with either Adsense, Amazon or an Affiliate product but I was also providing them with great information. I gave - they received.. At least that was my plan, but like I said, they never showed up.

Later down this journey, I resorted to the dark side, applying poor quality links from high ranking garbage blogs and even purchased some of these blogs to get my links!

They came, and so did the money.

Then I thought, that if it was all about the links, do I need to be spending so much time on providing quality when I could get a garbage site up and running in a day, saving my money for my link building.

They came and so did the money.

Then Google decides to pull in the reigns, penalizing links from these crap blog networks whilst taking a closer look at the quality.

My earnings in my crap sites got hit, my earnings in my quality sites got hit (at least the ones I never removed the links on)

But... my earnings in my earlier sites, the ones that I never got round to putting these type of links on, shot up. They were making me money.

My earnings are still down, but I couldn't be happier. At last we are on a more level playing field now.

If I can build a better more informative site with good onsite SEO, gain some social proof then I am going to be perched on the top of others.

I posted on another thread here today where the consensus was that is this the end of Internet marketing?

I say NO, it's just the beginning, time to clean this place up!!

I wish you well

I've seen many people go through the same maturation process. Over the next couple of years, quality will become an even bigger factor. But with all things created equal, effective SEO will still be king.
