Sure they can... if each focuses on a different keyword or phrase.

That said... I get your point.

They are making money by selling to people like you and I products about making money online. They are selling products about how to find a way to make money online, because there is a real demand for a product that provides ways to make money online. The only problem is that it is a pyramid scheme. Just look at the Warrior Forum, I was just looking above this post and it said that I can purchase a system to make $15,000/month. Are you kidding me?

I can't believe nonsense like this is even allowed to be on a reputable site like this one. As long as ads like that are still out there, someone is paying 50 bucks for that crap.

I figured this out when I saw a site selling 1000 ebooks for 10 bucks. I could not understand why they would do that instead of selling the ebooks. The reason I discovered was because it was easier to sell the 1000 ebooks for 10 bucks to people that wanted to make money online than to actually sell the crap ebooks included in the packages.

If you want to make money, you are going to have to sell products that teach people how to make money!

I have noticed that it is possible to get a high ranking on Google with Articles, Blog posts and Forum posts using Rich keywords in the text. As Tsnyder points out it can be done. I haven't yet reached the first page of Google. Having said that Google shows page rankings and not site rankings.

So a high quality page, rich with appropriate keywords, can rank highly in Google

I really feel where your coming from... Many of the top level marketers sell products that say you can make it to #1 on google by following a certain SEO System or blueprint. This is how many new marketers (not saying your a newbie) get frustrated and overwhelmed. Reaching #1 isn't impossible but it will take work depending on the keyword.

Honestly you do not have to depend on Google to send you your target buyers. If anything you should drive traffic to your site from different places.

What I see trending big time right now is product creation. That's how many people are making their income. It's not a bad thing though. I've purchased some great products that actually have helped me with my business and of course some that are full of Bull...

But if you want to generate big income create a product or service with great quality that helps people...

You do understand the concept of the long tail correct? With a long tail keyword you're much more targeted and thus see a much higher ROI generally speaking. All these companies need to do is target multiple long tails and they're pitching their client some nice growth numbers, and increased ROI factors.

That will keep the client hooked all day.

It is probably true that people are getting to the top of google. But question is what sort of keywords. For those high competitive keywords, it will monetize because of the amount of traffic.

So seeksucces, don't give up, eventually you will get the response that you want.

As for a lot that claim how well they did, well you have to look into it and understand/analyze. No doubt, there are those who lie about the stats, but once you achieve it, you know it is indeed possible. Just need to get to the right method that suits you!

Websites that are not #1 in Google are making money by doing three things:

1. Driving traffic to their website
2. Monetizing their website
3. Converting visitors to sales

Lots of websites that are not #1 for a keyword in Google make money using lots of different strategies, a few are:

• It's a myth you need #1 spot to get visitors, often being in the top 10 for keywords can get you enough traffic to make sales
• These websites that make money might be using PPC i.e. paying for advertisement to get customers to their website
• They might have built up a huge mailing list or social network following (twitter/facebook)
• They might cold call, do door knocks...

This stuff works: If you focus on driving traffic to your website, monetizing it and converting sales then you'll have one of those websites making the $$$

There are hundreds of thousands of businesses that have a reputation that doesn't require a link in Google. When I'm searching for a book or a lot of other products, I go directly to Amazon. When I'm searching for other brand name goods, I go directly to the brand website. I've searched for appliances in the online store that I wanted to buy from (large appliances) and go directly to that site (i.e., Sears).

Many of the marketers who rely on those page one search results are selling ebooks, infop products or trying to rank as an Amazon affiliate, etc. Those are the pages that rely completely on Google rankings. They are also the pages that I, as a searcher, would rather not have to scroll through to get to what I'm really looking for.

Say for example, I had an illness that I wanted legitimate medical information about. I don't want to sift through hundreds of Clickbank "how to cure ________" to get the real information that I'm looking for.

In fact, that can be said about most of my searches. I will go pages deep in Google if I have to find the authority sites that give me the information with trying to sell me an ebook.

This fixation people have with pandering exclusively to Google is something I don't quite understand, but the apparent inability to see beyond what it provides it is downright puzzling. Does the question of "What else?" really bear asking?

How did offline businesses ever thrive without top Google rankings? How did, indeed how do, they get exposure?

Ask yourself how Google itself was built without the aid of other search engines to refer it traffic?

Advertising opportunities exist all over the place, online and off. Not all are free, granted -- and most aren't -- but "free" exposure was seldom a luxury any of us had before the inception of the search engine, and certainly not something we took for granted.

Search engines might be the first port of call for many web users seeking answers and solutions, but they're not the last.

Avert your eyes from Google's kindly glow for just a second, if you dare, and you might discover a world of opportunity beyond. There's a chasm of difference between manipulating a robot and enticing real people, however; harnessing traffic in other ways might require you to call upon your smarts. Dust 'em off and fire 'em up.

Google is not the only traffic source. Yes, google is one of the best free traffic source. But there's still thousands of websites out there to get your customer. Example:facebook, youtube, twitter, etc

Marketing is about developing a message and getting it out to people. Sometimes the message is real and sometimes it is intended to create an illusion in people's minds.

Getting the message out is not all about getting a top ranking in Google, but it does help if you can do so.

I think the "con" is anything is making things appear easier than what they are. Look at any product:

Make money online
Dieting videos
how to build abs
how to learn a language

All makes it looks so easy when you see the adverts.

Here is the TRUTH:

If you want anything worth having it is HARD work and dedication.

You want to be number 1 on Google you can be...

You just need to beat the other millions of people that want it too.

So don't ask yourself "What is the truth?"

Ask yourself:

"How much do I really want it?"

Then:

"Am I willing to work my ass off for it?"

You can be number 1 but if you don't convert you won't get sales.

The truth is being position number 1 is advantageous but your offer must be alluring, trust worthy, add value and satisfy a want.

If you can't be some of those or more, I can bet you number will make more sales.

And for your information page 1 has 10 positions, there is room for enough sales to go around, want the truth load up your favorite search engine and take a look, and truth will unfold; just being naughty here

if one provide value, and is able to convert, one should do well, not necessary to be at number but you must be able to drive good buying traffic, guess that is why there are media buys, ppc etc

Way too many people are fixated on Google. There are tons of different ways you can have a good amount of traffic to your site. Google is just one of them. But I do agree with most here and that is - you have to WORK at it if you want it. Anything is possible if you want it bad enough. Google is great but you need to look outside the box too.

As far as working your ass off? You hit the nail on the head! Its always a safe bet to use more than one method to generate your traffic. Find the ones that fit you and work for you and stay with it. Once you master those methods, move on to a couple more and master them.

As far as Google goes...its no where on the horizon for many.

You absolutely can. There are new keywords coming out per day than ever before. I read an article recently where Google said that a large percentage of their searches progress in a pattern where they are searches that have never been searched before.

Perhaps it would take you years to hit #1 for "weight loss" or "gambling tips" but don't sell yourself short on the billions of other keywords out there that you have potential to easily rank #1 for.

Better look for other traffic sources quick they are out there.....especially since Matt Cutts said this about SEO

getting to #1 on Google is not the only way to make money and get sales.

I have never just relied on Google - I place ads on classified sites, I use Twitter, YouTube, forum marketing, guest posts, and best of all: word of mouth.

My advice (my opinion): Never just rely on Google traffic for your income, they can, at any given moment, knock your site completely off any of their search pages.

Use a combination of traffic sources. Never ever put all your eggs in one basket.
