How many backlinks are too many?

I published several sites very recently. I also just got Magic Submitter for the trial run. I know it's not a good idea to go nuts getting tons of backlinks (especially for new sites) in a short amount of time. Any suggestions on the pace I should set? Thanks.

Google is currently working on an algorithm that will penalize those fake backlinks. I'd stay away from any automated backlinking.

Another step to reward high-quality sites - Inside Search

In the next few days, we’re launching an important algorithm change targeted at webspam. The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google’s existing quality guidelines. We’ve always targeted webspam in our rankings, and this algorithm represents another improvement in our efforts to reduce webspam and promote high quality content. While we can't divulge specific signals because we don't want to give people a way to game our search results and worsen the experience for users, our advice for webmasters is to focus on creating high quality sites that create a good user experience and employ white hat SEO methods instead of engaging in aggressive webspam tactics.

There is no such think as TOO MANY..

    IF....

They are quality backlinks, whose purpose is to promote and bring additional RELEVANT traffic to your website.

Profile links? spun garbage content? No more... magic submitter, senuke, I'd stay away from with any site you care about.

As previous warrior said, it's all about quality and variety, not quantity. Get them from multiple sources that are authorities in your niche and Google will see those links with good eyes.

Post quality content with your link and you're safe. but don't just post only "<a href=" on those blogs, wordpress blogs or wiki sites that are available in MS. I am using it from the last 6months and had no issue with SERPs even after the latest penguin update.

I would not use an automated tool like that in light of recent changes- as other warriors have said go for quality.

In addition the velocity at which you build them is also important. Start out slow and increase slowly.

Best bet with Magic Submitter these days is use the "blogs", video and PDF as your tier 1s. Try to make those as quality as you can without killing yourself. Then back up those tier1's with all the other services making a very powerful link pyramid. Set it to run for 30-60 days. Just make sure your tier 1's are quality and don't blast them out too quickly.

always stick to "quality" when it comes to building backlinks....You will overwhelm the spiders with too many backlinks on a single day...develop a routine

Google focuses on quality and relevancy rather than quantity. So, try to build quality and natural backlinks.

You can use automated link building tools. Just don't be lazy about it. Add video, add pictures, use quality content. For anybody using automatically generated/spun content, I really want you to understand that you are wasting your time and money. All you need is 50 links in a week. But they need to be quality links. Its not that difficult to add value to the internet. Focus for a few hours, write good content. Produce some quality spins by hand. Then distribute it.

All this 1,000/15,000 links in a day stuff is getting ridiculous. People are just asking for a Google pimp slap. Then they get upset when Google releases an algorithm update and shows how strong their pimp hand really is.

Google is changing its algorithm again and again, so in these days we should stay away from automatic things because Google has become smarter enough to track and penalize your website. Try to submit link manual and do not go over 150 back links in one day otherwise Google will consider it link bomb

I saw a site penalized with as little as 20% 'bad links', 80% of the links were OK, but the site still tanked. So you need to be careful now.

You can never have too many. However, you can have too many spammy links. If all your backlinks are high quality, then you have nothing to worry about.
