Hi guys,
If EMD.COM is taken,
follow is right?
EMD.COM/EMD.NET/EMD.ORG/EM-D.COM/EM-D.NET/EM-D.ORG/E-MD.COM/E-MD.NET/E-MD.ORG/E-M-D.COM/E-M-D.NET/E-M-D.ORG

thanks

Short urls are valuable and tends to be snatched up, all 9 tld variations of emd listed in the Godaddy bulk search tab are already taken.

I would not use the hyphens, they are a pain to type in or describe over phone, I would just use a more descriptive longer name, like emdMarketing.com

Some people incorporate a www in names like: wwwemd.com there is some potential of confusion is such names.

As webapex said, avoid hypens and anything that's difficult to say / remember. Try the "radio test" - if the domain was in a radio commercial, would they need to spell it out to make it clear? If not, that's a good sign it's memorable.

Over the next few months, I think we'll find having an emd is less crucial anyway.

I also think in some circumstances, an EMD is not so important. If for example you need to create a site that will have many pages, each page will need to be optimized for a different keyword. The domain name in this case will have little effect on the ranking of all the other pages except maybe the home page.

All I care about is, the name is short enough to remember and type easily and that it describes what the site is about. I don't give much weight to the other stuff.

Not sure about that- it seems like exact match domains are one of the few things that are still effective, SEO-wise. Maybe your experience is different?

if emd is not available simply use the keyword and then add another word or a number at the end

EMD is only worth it for a .com/.net/.org without hyphens from my experience. You might as well go for a great sounding name if you can't get an EMD with one of the above 3 extensions. Ya they can work well but only .com/.net/.org EMDs (no hypends) get a ranking bonus in my experience.

You can use one of the following:
    TheKW.com
    KWhq.com
    BestKW.com
    KW123.com
    KWtips.com
    KWadvice.com

Don't use hypen, its ugly. Much better to come up with a good prefix/suffix.

It depends why you need the EMD.com. If only because you think it's easier to rank in google, then you can use ANY of 200+ ccTLDs. Google doesn't discriminate.
If you can't get dot com then it makes no difference what the TLD of your pigeon sh-t domain name is.
EMD.net = EMD.co.za = EMD.gb.net they have the same chance to rank for exact match keyword in google. The only reason you don't see this in google SERP's is because of herd mentality. People think you can only rank com net or org.
I have 450 exotic TLD domains and sharing my experience, not guessing.

      This statement is incorrect.

And that's readily verifiable by anyone who wants to check it out for themselves rather than being misinformed here. I have myself previously posted links to videos, here, in which Cutts explains it in detail and with no ambiguity at all.

Google has clarified this extensively and repeatedly, on websites, blogs and videos. Matt Cutts has explained it in detail on Google blogs, on his own blogs and on videos, and has invited people to quote him on it, in an attempt to dissuade people from publicising both ...

      (a) the misinformation which you've just stated above; and ...

      (b) the equally mistaken theories (also found in many threads here) that "a .com domain will rank better than a .info domain" and that "a .com domain will rank better than a .co domain" and other, very similar nonsense - all of it completely wrong.

Google doesn't discriminate for SEO purposes between all the international TLD's and three of the originally geotargeted ones: ".me" (originally for Montenegro), ".tv" (originally for Tuvalu) and ".co" (originally for Colombia).

Other ccTLD's are a different proposition altogether, and will rank better on Google searches made from within their own countries and less easily on searches made on Google.com.

However much people instinctively feel otherwise, this is simply factual.

Unless you're actually going to go so far as to allege that yellow-boy Cutts is deliberately lying about it in some sort of bizarre and apparently purposeless attempt to deceive the world: I have actually seen people say that here, rather than admit that they might be mistaken about it all, but what can you do? There are also people who believe that the British Royal family are descended from a race of intergalactic lizards, and ultimately I suppose one just has to decide who one's going to believe ...

Sadly, it seems that no matter how publicly and repeatedly and in how many different formats the reality is stated by Google, there simply isn't a way from stopping people whose own limited subjective experience based on only a few hundred domains has misled them into believing mistaken information from repeating it and misleading others with it, too.

      "Just saying" ...

No; I didn't say that. I didn't even say anything like that. Certainly anyone reading my posts above can see that for themselves. The evidence you're "just showing" doesn't detract an iota from what I said, and I strongly suspect that you know that, really.

To me, evidently unlike you, it isn't about "being right": it's simply about correcting factual misinformation of the kind you had originally posted, to try to reduce the risk of others being misguided by it exactly as I was myself, as a beginner.

Sorry but you missing the boat here. .com domains have always outrank other domain without much effort.

Try it, go and buy a .info and i will buy the .com and show you how I will outrank the .info with very little effort. I buy .com and they indexed without even doing anything and when I buy .info's or other domains have to work at it.

Thanks, but most of my business is built on .info domain-names, from choice, simply because my customers prefer those (I asked them). I buy the .coms as well, just to make sure nobody else does, but I just redirect each .com I'm not using the .info I am using.

This is extensively discussed in about 100 threads here, and what you say is entirely mistaken.

What with you on one side maintaining (wrongly) that a .com ranks more easily than a .info, and HN on the other side misquoting me, refuting statements I never made, and stating (bizarrely) that even a .ee domain-name ranks just as easily as a .com (also nonsense), this thread isn't actually now being helpful to anyone. Which is a shame.

If you want to know why you don't see as many .info domain-names ranking as highly as .coms (which, obviously, you don't see ... though it isn't because "they don't rank as well" as some people wrongly imagine!!), these threads might help you (but you'll have to be willing to read them, for that outcome) ...

        App.me sold for $50,000
        Hike.in sold for $32,000

        seo.de I think sold for $20,000
Source DNJournal.com Year to Date Domain Sales Charts
Rate.ee sold for $3 million to telecom company.

I have personally received offers in excess of €1,000 for free.ee , money.ee , sun.ee , cams.ee and refused to sell. I am not buying them for SEO purposes, but because there are people willing to pay for those domains.
Some of those domains alone sell for more than a developed long tail exact match .net or .org domains.

Guess what domain is #1 for keyword 'free', it's not free.com, it's free.fr #199 most visited website in the world. But you certainly can't make any money with non .com domains so stay away please. Let me have those domains. Thank you.

No, I really don't say "exactly the same thing" as you in that post!

It's true of international TLD's, and it's true of .co and .me and .tv (as I say there). It isn't true of .co.za, as you allege. There's a reason for that! :p

Look, I'm not trying to have a go at you for the sake of it: my aim is simply for people not to be misled by inaccurate information.

Your contention that all ccTLD's rank the same as a .com and other international TLD's simply isn't right.

Sorry, but that's just how it is!

Nobody's saying that the very occasional .ee domain can't rank at the top of Google.com, beating a lot of .coms. It can happen, but it's not going to happen without supreme, exceptional SEO, because on Google.com, other things being equal, a TLD ranks better than a .ee domain, according to Google. Proving that it's occasionally happened doesn't detract from what I (and Matt Cutts) are saying, here. A few counterexamples are neither proof nor disproof. When Cutts records a video telling you that all the international TLD's and three originally-geotargeted ones rank the same as each other, and that other ccTLD's rank better for their local searches (especially if also hosted in the country) at the expense of their overall ranking chances on Google.com, that is "proof". At the very least, it's the best proof you're going to get, and unless you're calling him a liar (which some people do, though I acknowledge that you haven't) the reality is that you're just going to have to accept that as proof, for the purposes of conversations like this one, simply because there's no higher authority available. (What do you want - blood? A reference in the Bible?!).

I've now done enough in this thread to try to avoid people being misled, guys.

It's over and out from me.
Be my guest over the "last word". Knock yourselves out.

I 've also seen some .co.za domains to rank well for a lot of gold and jewelry related keywords. This makes sense since South Africa (co.za) is #2 gold producing country in the world. Maybe Google is smarter than we think and factors this info in.

Obviously neither of us can speak for Google. What I said is based on a research. I've seen it. I wonder where your extensive knowledge comes from? Did you hear it or did you do a research?
I have researched top 20 rankings for 1 million keywords. You'd be surprised what ccTLDs rank in the top.
I don't understand how you can call this misleading people. My "inaccurate information" comes directly from google SERPs.

But of course this can be considered as an exception that proves nothing.

When I buy domains, I try .com, .net and .org and if none of them are available, I try adding a suffix to that keyword. I prefer not to use hyphens. You can use a long tail keyword as your domain name, or maybe add words like "now", "today" or "info" in it?

You don't need the keywords in the URL to rank. It's a crutch.

Shorter .com names that are easy to pronounce are best. They tend to rank well and can be resold easy.

Almost every famous website online doesn't have keywords stuffed in the URL.

For many people, those make walking a little easier and quicker than it would otherwise be. Do you have something against crutches?

They may have other advantages, indeed. But to assert that they "tend to rank well" is ... "interesting": the reality is that you have absolutely no evidence at all that a short domain-name will rank more easily than a long one, because there isn't any, because it isn't true.

I understand that you might have seen that said by someone you believed and trusted, but that just isn't the same thing as its being "true".

These threads are just surreal: people pour out their own entirely baseless personal opinions as if they were simply factual, and others believe them because "I read it in the Warrior Forum so it must be true". Rarely, if ever, does anyone attempt to distinguish between fact and opinion ... even on Google SEO matters on which clear and unambiguous statements are available from Google themselves.

Yeah, this thread turned surreal with your comment. I have no evidence - "because there isn't any because it isn't true." Wow, what an authoritative statement!

I have enough evidence to convince me of my opinion, which I offered. You also offered an opinion, but then disingenuously implied it was fact. LOL

I don't get my information from reading threads in the Warrior Forum, it comes from real world testing working with a large dataset of domains.

So, in summary: I gave an opinion and labelled it as such. You gave an opinion and labelled it as fact.

@spen, using a hypen is fine, even 2 is ok but 3 or more is going over the top. don't be misguided about having a url with hypens. i have alot of .INFO's with hypens in and they all rank very well.

I don't know, but I heard that .infos don't rank as easily because of the kinds of people who buy it. Many individuals buy them, and they are really cheap (usually discounted so easy to buy), so are less respected by google et al. But I'm just repeating what I've read, it's not my info. I'm just com ing

i personally dont think that , becuase i ranked a medical niche .info blog to page 1 out of x xxx xxx results and even managed to get a pr2 by first update.

Funny thing is it wasnt even quality content just spun unique content. i sold that blog though .

Get in touch with owner and buy the EMD?

At the end of the day, you still have to drive traffic to your EMD or your non-EMD. It's in your best interest to learn how to get tons of traffic to your website by not using search engines.

    Hi,

Having EMD's would be exciting but it is dropping in importance.

With the Penguin Update, EMD's and domain extensions become less in value for SEO and driving traffic.

What really count NOW are content - RELEVANCY, QUALITY, SIMPLICITY and also NATURAL BACK-LINKING.

Penguin Update is Good News for people who are "not-so-lucky" to have emds, yet have really good content to share and to profit from.

There are so many other effective ways to drive traffic to sites - FREE and PAID methods.

EMDs.. If you find that they are called for by someone else then consider adding a suffix like 'the' or 'best' and so on. But be prepared to do some more work. If it's a low or medium competitive niche it's okay, but in a high competetive niche then just move on.

I only buy .com, .net, or .org. I've had the best results ranking those in Google.
