This one was a big slap from google.

Most of my sites which were main source of earner for me have been buried down in google search results.

Now i am planning to create new sites. But i am not sure if i should build small sites or large content rich sites.

HAS any of your small SITE survived the penguin update?

Please share any info if u can. It will help me in making better sites

Most of my small sites improved after Penguin. They are all 2 page sites with about 1000 words each page. The quality is of the content is pretty good but I think they survived because of the high PR links I have.

I've also seen improvement in an assortment of my small sites. Some are HTML, some are Wordress. Most are about 4 pages of content -- 1K words of original content per page -- plus the usual contact/privacy policy pages. Some are monetized with Amazon, some are Adsense. NONE have had any kind of questionable backlinking.

      Hope that helps!

None of my sites was hit by Penguin update. I run about 50 of them and some have improved dramatically.

I have 1 page sites as well as big sites ranking so that doesn't really make difference in my opinion.

Don't be afraid to build a new site. Place good content, do proper SEO and you won't have problems to rank with any update.

    A few more questions:

    Are these sites EMD?

Most of my sites are. Or as close to it as I could get at the time.

Some of them went up, some went down. It's unexplainable really why that happened. I did pretty much the same kind of seo on all of them. So, it's hard to explain why some went up and some went down.

    Hi,
All my sites survived all past and recent updates, never flounder in the serps at all. Each site ranks #1 for its keywords, plus secondary keywords.

    Each is an emd
Each is currently in a blog network
Each has backlinks built almost daily (though anchor text is almost always mixed up)
Each page is highly seo'ed for it's main keyword and secondaries ( post are longer then 1500 words)
These are adsense type sites, most are not over 8 pages
One thing that that does stand out on these sites, is heavy visitor participation via blog comments. Lot of back and forth communication, with keywords and secondaries included.

I do not article marketing, no web 2.0's or social type marketing. I do have sexy bookmarks each site. On the average I get close to 100 shares each via sexybook marks.

I do not do any list building, or freebies....just post quality information that people seek.

I have adsense above the fold, just under the title. Adsense blocks on both sidebars, and either in the header or just under the navigation bar, depending on the site.

All sites are tastefully done (even with adsense) using Headway themes, each is an wordpress site. All domains are .com's

Seems like I'm doing everything against, everyone's take on just what theses updates are targeting.

One more thing, these sites range in age from 9months to 3 years old, I can't remember when new material was posted on any of them without going back to look. Daily comments, some as lengthy as a 300+ word comments are not uncommon, which I believe is giving these blogs new blood each day.

I just plan on doing what I doing.....works so far.

Sounds like lots of content for on page and blog network for SEO.

That will probably work indeffinately unless google finds that blog network, then it all crumbles. This is what happened to all the folks using BMR.

Small sites have actually been the hardest hit by Google Panda and Google Penguin. Perhaps the reason for that lies in the notion of Google that small sites are the usual locations of content spams and link spams. Google also believes the logic that a small site has lesser content compared to a bigger one, thus, the higher the possibility of being haphazardly built without consideration to the welfare of online visitors just to earn money.

Maybe it lies in the notion that most websites are small websites and that's why they have the majority on affected sites.

Have plenty of small sites that "survived." Strong on-page SEO is a major factor for me, something that people tend to overlook.

You're referring to what? H1, titles, img alt tags, etc?

All that, as well as meta stuff in the head tag, and of course keywords in the actual copy.

Most of my sites survived. Some improved. I have a mix of small sites, large sites, and even a few autoblogs that are all ranking well. I do NO backlinking outside of social bookmarking and pinging new posts and I target products that I know I can rank for and that I know will convert.

Yes, we've survived because we do create quality, original and relevant content and never gone through heavy optimization (large link building). We do try to create natural links (do-follow and no-follow).

Penguin as discussed on forums was against keyword stuffing and other black hat SEO techniques thus I donot think that there is any relation with site length as my sites also donot have bigger in number of pages and survived after penguin update.
