So a while back I paid for some crappy spun content article links on fiver for testing reasons. The spun contents probably ripped off another site also.

Google had registered 58 links in total for the internal page I got the links for. The link anchor text was spun also.

After penguin the internal page these links point to went from page 2 to #3 page 1.

I see all these threads about getting links from crap sites and being penalised however it seems crap spun articles are loved by penguin... for the page I use in the example anyway. Maybe repetitive anchor text thats the major problem?

I think no one described the proper format about Google Panda and Penguin. Totally confuse about these new changes in search algorithm

I think you might be right. One of my sites that dropped from #3 to page 4 has a variety of links but I checked the link profile of the site now sitting in the #2 spot.

All the links are profile links, about 200. Each one has the exact same anchor text all pointing to the home page, and every profile has the same user name. If that isn't a footprint I dont know what is, but still ranks #2.

This doesn't add up for repetitive anchor text though so who knows what Google is doing because I haven't got a clue.

I don't think Penguin loves crappy links just that you have not exceeded any filter limits yet with spam / unnatural links. Keep going and i'm sure you see Penguin kick in.

I also have one site that i made for testing pre penguin and it has spun content links - the only reason I think it's in position one is because it has a low number of links and Penguin is giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Crappy links might help short-term but don't count on it staying that way... use your crappy links to backlink the high quality ones

I wouldn't high five over this yet. Penguin is constantly updating. Theres a good chance it may take a bit before the slap comes. I had an eye on one site in my niche that had complete garbage links. It survived everything and then yesterday got knocked to the ends of the earth.

I have seen the same thing from some of my competitors. My site was slapped, yet 2 stayed on the first page with over 50% exact match anchor text and mostly from the same unrelevant site. One site finally dropped off the map, but the other is still at #4. The only good thing about this site is, there is a new original article posted everyday.

I have already started over with a new site. I will take it really slow this time. 5 original articles per week with my own social bookmarks. Then after a few weeks start doing some articles/backlinks form some 2.0 sites. Same as before with 2 links, 2 images, and an embedded video. Maybe only 1 or 2 of these per week.

It also happens with us when we update something right? Suppose we update our wordpress version and some plugins are not working properly. Let's think same thing is happening with google also, but everything will be fine after a certain period of time i guess.

That's one heck of a stretch. You really have no
idea why a site goes up or down. People
constantly mix up cause and effect.

Or maybe Penguin is a once-a-month-ish filter, just like Panda? Good luck with that.

    Garbage.

You're probably ranking for a useless search term that would rank if you threw a goat at it.
