I thought Panda is too old and Penguin has already hit much harder.

Panda affected the SERP, and then Penguin came along and made more changes. I don't care which one is the one that affected it. I am interested in how these things affected the article directories.

Article marketing is definitely dead post-panda.

I would assume that a lot of article marketing businesses went down the tube with that update, and may never recover.

However, the update does make sense... Many of these article directories really didn't provide much (if any) value to web users. Google is going to continue to evolve and weed out all link building methods that aren't truly adding value, but rather trying to "game" the engines.

Best bet is to start adopting a strategy of creating good content (content that deserves to rank number one) because that is going to be the only way to succeed in the near future.

I'm less than convinced. Google only provided a percentage of EzineArticle.com's traffic. People will still be going there to find articles to post on their sites. THOSE links will still count for something. Sure the backlinks will be worth less but, IMO, it shouldn't be about the links - it should be about writing great content that gets you LOYAL readers. Nothing beats building your own captive audience.

Panda came for removing spam content from the web whereas penguin has come for removing spam sites from the web.

    Huh!

Articles sites are also working brilliantly. There is no any problem with article sites but spam sites and contents are out from the market. Whenever you are going to put article in article sites, check the status of site whether it is good or spam.

I haven't got a clue how to get traffic from Google anymore. I'm sure back links still have some effect, but even if I rank first on the first page for multiple keywords to do with my topic, I can still get more traffic through social media, so that's what I'm focusing on, and it's ten times more successful for me than Google at the moment.

I have about fifty thousand folllowers and friends on Twitter, Facebook, etc. I can get a few hundred unique views a day to my site if I really try, but it does take tweeting or sharing a fair bit to get that.

I don't think it's the article marketing that's the dead. What's dead are the spammy, irrelevant and no-sense contents.

Article directory marketing is definitely dead. It was never that great in the first place; but was easy. That's why so many chased it with gusto. Article syndication marketing is doing just fine though, and Google can't really do much to affect that.

Mass submission of articles are dead in my mind. In a way that's good I guess, but I would rather have Google simply discounting links from article directories it deemed unworthy / non-editorial.

I wonder if mass distributed press releases will be next some day. (Probably not if going with a high-end service like PRWeb and similar though)

    • Article marketing still works for those who submit quality content. If you just spin a few articles that provide no real value to your readers, then you won't get any results. It is important to write useful posts that show your expertise and provide fresh information.

Don't forget that you can do things like submit (quality) articles to newsletters for free and get targeted visitors to your site.

Also, if you're regularly posting articles to a niche blog you can still get traffic from google if you don't have 1000s of spammy backlinks pointing to your site.

Do not waste your time with article marketing any more. Just write an original 450-550 word article and place it on your blog. And then try to get that ranked is a better long term strategy.

Google has developed the panda algorithm just for getting the quality content on web and to provide the best to people in search results. So still if one provides the quality and meaningful content in their article then it definitely works. And now as per the latest update penguin google trying to get quality sites on web so that it can get quality content also with that. So in the last, none method going to destroy but its way of working change as per the distinct changes.

Please don't crucify me for asking, but are there any good article marketing guide? I don't care if it's an affiliate link, I just want to write articles and know how/where to submit them etc. I am a current writer for my job and it's all I do, so I'd like to know how to make decent (or at least better) money doing it.

    Hmmm...which one is more likely:

    A) Article marketing is dead and all the people having success with it are lying

    B) Article marketing still works but you're doing it wrong or haven't adapted

    C) You don't really know what works because you haven't tested a d*mn thing

Ok im gonna cheat and pick both B and C.

Article marketing still works. You just have to do it correctly and not look spammy.

Also mass marketed networks are highly visible to Google, so dont use them. Find a private network

PS: I still rank high from using a simple public network... for medium competitive terms...

        It's not dead.

An old project of mine which consisted of click through traffic from Ezinearticles going to a landing page with a clickbank offer has already made over $100 today and I haven't touched it at all in over 3 years.

I get income from that traffic still to this day even after all the changes.

In fact, each project I did this way continues to make money some weeks better than others.

BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT ...

For the same effort, you can get more traffic typically by putting the article on your site and building maybe a few backlinks.
