301 Redirect to Increase Domain Age

If I were to 301 redirect an aged domain (more than 3 years old with PR3) to a fresh 2 days old domain, would my new domain gain the benefits of "domain age"?

What other benefits are there, apart from inheriting PageRank. Would it help in SERP ranking?

* Assuming anchor text of aged domain is not a 100% match to the targeted new domain.

Yes, this still seems to work, most of the time. In some cases, people have found the benefits to only be temporary, but 301 redirects are a difficult area for Google to deal with. This is because there are many legitimate reasons for their use - something that Google actually encourages. Without 301s there would be a lot more broken links around the web. Therefore, whilst I am sure that Google will attempt to crack down on the 'misuse' of 301s, it's going to be hard for them to implement any penalties, as legitimate use is so widespread.

Personally, I don't really consider inheriting PR as a major benefit, as it's mainly a metric. But in broad terms, redirecting an aged domain with PR will mean that your site is easier to rank, it will dance around the SERPs less and Google will be more tolerant of any link building.

That's exactly what I am hoping for.

You have to make sure the domain you're looking at buying has never been slapped, sanboxed, deindexed, or penalized in any way. Otherwise this will eventually carry over to your moneysite.

In addition to DA, if the domain has a lot of backlinks this is good for passing link juice,
but only if its in the same niche. To get the added benefit of this the backlinks anchor text should be relative to your niche.

I'm not sure if this is considered black hat or not, its probably grey hat if anything so you may be treading on thin ice. I would much rather have the domain be in the same niche for the reasons stated above, but also to be able to help explain any questionability that may arise.

Another option if the domain has good PR would be to keep the site active and use it to link out to your other sites, thereby passing on some link juice in that manner.

Is a stupid idea. The domain age cannot be changed if you redirect a site to it. If I buy yhoooooooo.com and I redirect yahoo.com after a week in it, the yhoooooooo.com will have 15 years ? I don't think so !

It will affect the old domain I think.
