Hi! When someone searches for a local business and uses the town in the search criteria, Google will list "Local Business Results" just above the regular search results. These local listings are different from the regular results.

Does anyone know what factors Google uses to rank websites in its "Local Business Results"?

Are there SEO techniques, either on-page or off-page, that I can use to have my website listed first?

Thanks.

Click on the 'more results' link then click 'Information for Business Owners'

Now you have an option to include your site in the list, you will need to give them your phone number so they can verify that you are who you say you are.

    Good luck

Mickm, I have been listed in the Google local results for several years, but my website has never been near the top of the local listings even though I have had good ranking in the regular search results. Now, I would like to be listed at the top of the local results. Any SEO ideas to move to the top of local results?

      Thanks.

It works on longitude/latitude and the search city's "epi-center"

For instance, I live in Tampa. Tampa's epi-center near the downtown area. Therefore, if I search on "tampa auto repair", I'm going to get the 10 LOCAL auto repair shops that are closest to Tampa's epi-center listed in the local/map box.

You basically have no control over it and you can't "optimize" for it. Sorry. The only way to get in the top 10 local results is by moving your physical address near your most searched on city epi-center!
