Looking for some help with backlinks!

Hi everyone, just wanted to start off by saying I'm very impressed by the amount of collective knowledge here.

I, like many, was a little inspired by Steve Crooks' challenge, and have decided to succeed with a few carefully-chosen blogs. I understand that backlinking is very important, and I'd like some tips on it.

Here's what I think I've understood, please correct me if I'm wrong, and please do add with your experience and tips!

* submit to social bookmarking sites (stumbleupon being the best)
* submit to ezine, i-snare, go articles, findarticles, articlebase, articlecity, articledashboard
* twitter (tweet?) everything
* using whatever method, find other blogs similar to mine (but ideally in a better position) and email them for a link exchange, but worded thoughtfully

Some questions...

I'm a little fuzzy on link exchanges. If you exchange links on your blogroll (something I don't even use at the moment), won't your blogroll just grow too long?

And these H1, H2 tags... I've seen them when looking at the stylesheet.css in Wordpress, but don't these pretty much represent the title and tagline of the blog (from the settings page)?

Which of these things should I put the most time into? It seems to be that the success rate for link exchanges would be pretty low, but also that these links would be pretty valuable.

What else can I do to build links/backlinks?

      What?

Are you crazy dude? That's a sure-fire way to damage someone's site.

It is NOT organic. But it IS spam.

Since you're the expert, I'm looking forward to your response on how you can justify this advice.

    some more pointers.
    1. Create Video's and submit to youtube like sites.
    2. Create some Link Bait content and try to get on to the homepage of Digg.

And linkbait is basically an optimized version of an article that is like a numbered list, top-of list and things like that, correct?

Also, what are bad link farms? How can I separate the good from the bad?

Mickm, thanks so much for your PM... very sincere of you. Apparently I can't reply to you via PM because my post count is too low. I've noted what you said, but are there any other good methods you'd recommend for backlinking?

Do any of you know if there's a utility/app/webapp to submit your post or article to several social bookmarking sites at once? I think I saw this feature in Firepow, but something like this would be pretty useful.

Just mix it up a little. Do a bit of everything but just make sure that you do each one right. Use unique descriptions, content etc when including your link anywhere.

If you have a number of sites, focus on one method more with each site and see which works better for you. Then utilise that results with your other sites.

there's only one resource you need to check out. Just google "Griz make money online" . His ugly blogspot blog is the definite resource for SEO / backlinks. Stop reading anything else and you'll thank me in 3 months :-)

Yesterday I read about backlinks that put your site at Google's first page. I subscribed, and I'm learning how to use this system.

    Angela Edwards is promoting it.

Go to the Warrior Special Offers Forum and you'll find her. She is in the second page today. Her post is entitled
"Get onto Google's First Page! Fist packet of 30 high page rank backlinks FREE!"
(I'm new here and I'm not allowed to post links yet)

It's a very intelligent and cheap way for getting backlinks!

    All the best!

Christina, I had a look at Angela's thing... looks interesting. I know you're new to it, but does it seem to work?

Right, I just saw that there's software out there that does backlinks... I wonder if its worth it to go for something like that rather than put the manual labour in.

It doesn't matter if you put them in by hand or by bot, if they are ending up on spam sites the end result is still the same.

Why are you telling people to use link farms? I can't figure it out.

I was just looking into that, and both of your observations appear to be true. I think I'm gonna go ahead and try the $5 plan from Angela first.

I'm going to try blog commenting as well, but aren't most blogs using the nofollow tag? Is there any way to tell if someone is using that tag on their blog comments?

      Hi loybond,

The money you earn from targeted traffic that arrives through a nofollow link spends just as nicely as dofollow links. Never forget that it's the traffic that's important, not some little green line.

Link exchange is an effective way if done properly, you exchange links with relevant and good neighbor with less outbound links on it.

  • If you are lazy and want to rank fast on Google use a Squidoo lens. You can piggy back off the ranking of Squidoo and only have about 10 back links to your lens and you will be ranked #1 or close to it on Google. Do NOT use any auto submission software to create back links for Google or you will be put in the sand box because this is NOT allowed by Google.

As in auto submitters to social bookmarking sites?

well .. it's all about the context ..

Manual adding links to directories or software .. doesn't matter it's still bad .. directories provide no value to search engine only link to other websites

The only good directories are dmoz and yahoo directories .. one is almost impossible to crack and the other one is paid one. Both do manual review for your entry and google has a long established relationship with these 2 .. but they are exceptions.

I said the most important is the context .. so what do I mean by that .. well .. you can start researching forums on your niche .. provide solid answers and link in signature. Write articles and submit them to article sites (still providing theme related backlinks)

Start building a wordpress , blogspot , squidoo , hubpage .. and other web 2.0 they I will not name in a public forum .. Write for each articles on your related themes. If they offer RSS .. submit the feed to feed directories. Ping your entries. Bookmark your web 2.0 sites (Bookmarkingdemon). Build backlinks for your web 2.0 and interlink your web 2.0 properties.

And .. most important .. start spying on your competitors and see their backlinks .. leverage their work and put your links where they have placed theirs. If they have high rankings so will you.

Google will not show you too much data .. but if you go to yahoo and search linkdomain:competitor.com .. you will see a lot more ..

Test , tweak and take massive action
