apologise if this is an improper question for the forum

Ive started using word press to make a newbie website.
I have had unwanted advertising links appearing on my site, and now they are also appearing on other sites.
Is this something to do with word-press or me. I have avg free installed.

    Try to provide more detail....what other sites are they appearing on? What kind of advertising links?

    They are simple to get rid of....you can either get a spam filter or your best bet is to just make sure all your comments have to be moderated and they are not auto approved. You can easily weed out spammers that way...

    It would help if you could be more descriptive but in general;

    if these are spam comments appearing - check your settings to make sure comments are not automatically approved and use Akismet to filter spam

    if these are spam links that pop up in the search bar on your site and when you try to search on other sites - you probably have a virus on your computer. Try to figure out which one it is and take appropriate action. One to look for is the Widdit virus.

    If the links are appearing on other sites, as well as your own, it sounds to me as if your computer has been infected with advertising malware.

    Download and scan it with the free version of malwarebytes (Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download) and superantispyware (SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!)

      Still working on it but is related to software being installed on your computer and to get rid of them you need to find the name of the saftware and delete it out of your about:config command area which can be reached via the normal browser either Firefox or IE by just typing in "About:Config" that's it then doing a search for all those entries now this is a very sensitive area and you need to take care you only delete the correct commands... If done right this will rid you of this annoying practice(worm like problem). Name of associated commands can and may start with 'app.update.lastupdatetime'
