Google won for me 5/0.

There are times I like bing though, I just wish they indexed faster and more complete then they currently do. It seems like they just pick certain pages to index and are always 3 months behind indexing.

Just an advertising gimmick by bing.

It's called, "Desperation."

Bing continues to bleed money from MS, google
continues to have record profits.

Google's presence on the web is astounding, from
youtube to gmail, blogger to reCaptcha, and everything
in between. Toss in android, and their presence is
a blanket over the world.

It would be very hard for the general public, the public
that matters, to escape google.

When you start using advertising gimmicks like this,
call it "jumping the shark."

MS should toss in the towel. Whoever even came
up with the name, bing, should have been fired.

By even putting a google+ button on it, MS cannot
even escape the google, although I'm sure they
had good reason to include it. Still lame. The whole
thing is as lame as Geico commercials for the blind
taste test of "car insurance."

LMAO, Google won all 5 rounds for my keywords.

Here's the message from Bing at the end:

Google may have won this round, but others picked Bing web search results over Google nearly 2 to 1 in blind comparison tests.*

That message sounds like something a loser would say.

Why would I give a $hit what others (whoever others is) care about while I'm searching my keywords?

It's the classic "If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you jump?".

because its keyword specific. Chose Google myself more too but I have used Bing enough to know sometimes on some searches they are better

  Like Paul said above, it's a gimmick. Bing lost the so called challenge & still tells me the results aren't typical of most searches. I wonder If my challenge will skew their 2 to 1 ratio?
  
  Thing is the only people outside of SEO that will see that advertisement are people that akready use MS products, so their trying to convince people that already use the product?

  Its advertising and not a bad one at that. they lost your challenge but not everyones. Even though Google got most of mine it forced me to look at the results and they were not all that different in many results. Even though they lost MY keywords as far I was concerned I am more likely to do searches in BIng if I don't find what I want in Google and do so faster than I would have before.
  
  Of course the big difference with me is that I don't give a rip about Google being better than Bing or BIng better than Google and i never can understand why marketers try and take sides.
  
  To me its silly for marketers to do that. I care about my own company and marketers are served best by competition among search engines. All the MS hate is just nonsense. Every marketer should be hoping for a non monopoly in search and rooting for whoever to take market share.

According to Alexa, Facebook is now the visited website in the world. Google isn't guaranteed to be number one forever, even in search.

I think this is a good gimmick. It forces people to at least think about search quality, and wonder if they need to stick with Google.

I would imagine they are using AdWords. I wouldn't know, though, because I'm using the most popular extension for Chrome, AdBlocker

MS has been working throughout the media which is far from just inside MS properties

If I ask 700 GM workers who makes better cars, GM or Toyota, I wonder If the majority will pick GM?

Weak. The survey did not just ask MS workers. You are sounding like one of those mindless MS haters. Did you even read about the survey?

The results are not filtered through Bing. They are being reported by Bing. You are being ridiculous. All corporations at some point enlist third party research firms to do consumer research including Google. Even in this thread a high enough percentage of people are finding them equal or in some cases better. From what I see this is one of MS's better advertising campaigns whether you like it or not (and I admit many of their advertising campaigns have sucked).

Again I really only care about choices and monopolies or near monopolies in search. LOL MS haters are the last people who can talk about drinking the kool aid . I really don't care whose better I want to see a more levelplaying field so yeah I hope Bing makes inroads. I had a few minutes waiting on a customer and I did the test four times

Google won twice for me and Bing did twice. Which means for one persons query it can be diverse depending on keywords. One person getting a certain result doesn't mean anything about what is typical and you keep acting like because Google won for you its all "BS" which is well...."BS"

Fact is I well could have done my second search first and Bing would have won confirming the Survey to me at least.

All Bing really needs is for that to happen with even a third of the people and it would be a big success

You forget that google is not just google.com,

FYI: Google owns
google.com
youtube
blogspot
google.co.in (India)
they run search for yahoo japan
google.com.hk (Hong Kong)
google.de (Germany)

Google has 7 in the top 20 worldwide.
Now compare that to facebook.

Google stock: $706 per share
Facebook: $18.98

Not sure why people continue with this facebook myth
about "most visited site." Meaningless.

Toss in all of google's search sites, google.de.
google.com.hk, google.co.in, yahoo japan, google.com,
those alone make facebook.com look like a dwarf.
Then you have to toss in aol.com, ask.com, etc, that
all use google search.

Google's footprint is like Goliath to an ant when compared
to facebook.

I have no idea why the FB hype is still alive here.
Reality has yet to sink in.

  If that crazy logic were applied to everything then we would only have one company in every market niche. Whenever companies have a 60 or percent share of a market the rest should all run away. This isn't about usage rates anyway. its about a blind test judging quality not popularity so you are still off. Look You know I know you from other threads on MS. You are a total hater of all things MS. It just doesn't make any sense in this scenario. frankly its silly unless you own Google or Apple in any scenario to fall deeply and madly in love or hate with something as soulless as a company.

People predicted all kinds of devastation in the Video game market then they pretty much stomped on Playstation. Windows 8 and WIndows 8 tablets are about to drive you crazy again. Me I just use whatever tech works for my business. My names isn't Gates and He has enough money. But then again my name isn't cutts or sergey so what do I care about Google being the best.

Correct there are no guarantees in life except for taxes and my wife's anger after I leave the fridge door open. For now, Google will remain number one. It would take a monumental cock-up for them to lose that position I think. Do you guys think it could happen ? What would it take ? I think MS have a lot of talented people but I don't think MS are skilled enough to find a way to surpass Google on service alone. If Google and Bing returned exactly the same results who would you use ? Correction - who would everyone who is not an SEO enthusiast use ? Probably Google right ...

To be fair, Bing does offer up a different list of recommended search phrases (different than Google suggested search phrases), I'm thinking of testing those different recommend Bing search phrases on Google SERPs for my own pages & see what happens with Google traffic.

The way I figure If Bing is getting hits for their recommend search phrases, surely Google SERPs get the same searches. We'll see...

When I took the test it was 1 for Bing, 2 for Google and 2 were a draw with substantially identical results. However, I have noticed recently that particularly once you get to page 2 or 3 and are looking past the obvious searches, Google tends to give me multiple pages of the same sites over and over while that happens much less in Bing. For example, if I am looking at a tax issue and want to find some analysis, I don't particularly want 7 or 8 out of 20 results pointing to different pages at irs.gov

As marketers, we should be looking at it from a marketing point of view. Whether you think Bing is better than Google or the other way round or just don't care, the main point is that Bing have generated a good viral campaign here and in all likelyhood is going to pick up some new converts.

This. It's a fun little campaign and I'm not sure why so many people are hammering MS for doing it. And at the end of the day it's going to barely make a dent. But I'm definitely not going to blame MS for trying.

Hardly a fair comparison as it's not a "blind" test. It's well known the YT likes/dislikes are very biased and not a particularly good indicator as to whether a video is really good or bad.

Just look at any videos where major brands are compared, eg: Coca Cola/Pepsi, Windows/Mac etc. The votes go according to people's allegiances.

If this can be tested/used by none SEO and IMer people I guess you can get more accurate result

.

Many SEO And IM people knew which of the two result are google result and bing result. Sometimes this influence their answer.

If they love google they will select google result if they hate google they will select Bing result

I got Google 5x. Google seemed to give me more results from forums, which I prefer. For example if I search for something about SEO or web development I'd rather read about it on a forum (or I just check an SEO blog I already know about). Bing didn't give me any forum results.

See thats a key right there too. It highly subjective to what you in particular like. For most of my searches what I DON"T want are forums because frankly most of the people posting in forums know about as much as I do before I search.

One thing I think any objective person will take away though is that in most cases the results are not that hugely different. A lot of the time I found myself picking on some of those same subjective factors to make a decision and there were cases where 8 out of the ten results were the same pages.

For all those hating on Bing, and wanting MS to throw in the towel ... look at the Xbox. They lost tons of money when it first came out, but they stuck with it and now they have the #1 gaming console.

As a MS software developer, I know I may be bias, but I dare anyone to pick up a Windows Phone and tell me it isn't the best phone they have ever used. You name ANY new feature on the iPhone or Android, and the Windows Phone already has it.

Some of my keywords rank high on bing yet not so high on google. Now that yahoo is out of the picture, it's really between google and bing. I think google covers the web in more ways than one, and bing will face an uphill battle longterm. Google just does so many things better, especially gmail! Like others have said, MS has tons of money, but then again, so does Google.

While I am not a fan of Bing, they have been increasing their share of the search engine market recently.

- Penguin
- Banning people from adsense for no reason

Bing 3, Google 2 for me.

I've been using Bing for the majority of my searches for a while now, but still use Google for some. They are both excellent tools.

Anytime you have an irrational 'love' for a company that you don't have a vested interest in you should reevaluate your opinion. Choose the search engine that can most benefit YOU, not for the love or hate you feel for the company.

This campaign has also been on commercials for TV as well so they are doing it in far more places than just MS owned properties. I think it will get them some new users, good for them.
