The updated bot will look at the domain and other key factors to either flag or not flag the site. Being it hosted on blogger most likely not exclude it from penalization.

It would be good to know for sure though.

It's hard to give an exact answer to this mate. Google is known to treat small/cheap looking sites differently than big/authority/established domains.
Most of the times, bigger sites can get away with things that cause smaller sites to be penalized.
With that said, I've never been much a fan of the EMD business; a brandable domain is always better if you are serious about the site.

Sure there is. We just don't know the specifics. Matt Cutts said it flags low quality. We just have to figure out what is required to stay in compliance.

I posed some direct questions to Matt Cutts on post EMD update. I hear conflicting statements from other webmasters/SEOs on this update.

I asked him 2 questions. Can Serp Juice be regained on Domain names and what effects does this do to newly created or Aged Domains on a new site.

This has to be disclosed one way or another. How is one to stay in compliance if they do not know the rules?

So it's a rule but it hasn't been disclosed? Sort of what I was saying. BTW, not every "EMD" was hit. There are many low-quality EMDs still dominating many keywords.

If your website was hit, I would suggest you check your backlinks and see what percentage of backlinks contain the EMD in them. Sites that survived (at least the ones I've been looking at) didn't overuse the main phrase when linking.

Its like any other bot. It might not crawl your site today, but maybe tomorrow.

All links contain the emd in them. That is the domain. The backlinks are not the deciding factor. It maybe a X amount, but hardly the case when you have reputable backlinks.

I am only guessing here and maybe others can clarify and fill in with their prognosis. I imagine the bot looks for the keyword also in title, description, headings, and internal links on interior pages to wager to flag or not. After all the EMD in itself carries a lot of serp juice.

Like I said to others. Not all EMDs are Gimmics, Many reflect their business name. They maybe Business sites, not content sites, or possibly new sites.

There's a difference between a branded EMD and the EMDs that 99.99% of IMers use.

        Winning!
        Example branded EMDs:

        bmw.com
        google.com
        ihop.com
        etc...

        FAIL!
        Example of IMer EMDs:

        low-cost-car-insurance-online.info
        get-your-exback.info
        cheap-homeaudio.info
        etc...

I have a few Blogspot blogs that got wiped out with the most recent update. I think it was more of a content issue than a EMD issue. Although, they were EMD i.e. MAINKEYWORD.blogspot blogs...

I don't know why people focus on "EMD" instead of the "CRAP."

If they focused on crap, they may get somewhere...instead of
misquoting google. WF epidemic, that's for sure.

Just had someone contacting me who tanked with his blogspot blog and asked if I could rescue it, his blog looked real ugly, could just as well be some MFA site so the fact that it's hosted on blogspot is not going to give you any benefit.

I can tell you now ..... A definite YES !

I saw two of my blogs drop 200 spots overnight from page 1. I had the keyword in the blog name and URL for both blogs. They had no bad backlinks but over optimized keywords. I have a few other blospot blogs that saw NO movement - they have blog names and addresses different to the targeted keywords.

    It's not a EMD penalty....its a SEO penalty!

SEO is just a guessing game and very risky.

My blogspot is still doing OK. However, the big difference is that I've not specifically targeted 1000+ volume keywords. I think that's where the problem lies.

Google favours blogspot, its their own property. I am sure they are doing something undehanded/shady and favouring their own properties. I rank blogspot sites, didnt have a single one go down with latest algo update. 90% of them are one page wonders with 600-1200 words on them.

Take that for what you want.

Are you using a custom domain or not? Wouldn't the EMD update only affect blogger blogs which use a custom domain and not just a blogger subdomain?

Definitely, google penalizing each domain EMD and PMD which contains your primary keywords whether its blog or website.

EMD still having a strong ranking factor in google. I have tested creating several website with primary keywords and ranked in the first few results of google in a few days.
