Help pls....

I have a content based site with product pages. It is indexed well, located here...
(sitemap.xml)

Within the site, I also have dozens fresh articles in Wordpress - two months old -- (also indexed by Google), located in the standard WP sitemap plugin at...
(articles/sitemap.xml)

Is the above sitemap structure ideal? Should I combine it all into one? Does it matter?

I'm early in the rank building game, and have good internal link structure. Starting inbound link building also. But I thought for sure some of my WP articles would be getting rank. So I'm a bit surprised.

Advice welcome.

Hi, do not think it will matter that you have two sitemaps but I would ensure that the first one contains a link to the second. Jim

I'm with jamaks on this as I believe that as long as engines find pages and index them your good. I use WP with the Yoast SEO plugin and it creates sitmaps for posts, pages, and the main site.

I would be up for hearing others thoughts as to if this is best or if it really matters?

Well sitemap are there so that you can have a resource where Google can find all the pages of your site mostly for indexing purpose. You can place all your links into a single sitemap. But its ok if you have it in 2 separate files.

This is what I learned from Google,
It is better to have 2 sitemaps, however one is for Google to index your site better, the other site map is actually for your visitor.

You are essentially asking if it is okay to have two different XML sitemaps that cover different parts of your site. And the answer is that it is fine. Google Webmaster Tools etc. will accept that just fine.
