how to see where a site is backlinked?

I am helping a friend get his site better ranking on google. He sells a specific kind of health product that other sites that sell it too rank higher. Is there a way to see what/where those other sites are backlinked at? would knowing that information help me? Can I improve my friends ranking by linking on his site somewhere to the higher ranking sites? lol

there is also a youtube video of the product that is showing up on page 1 that only has 1 video on the channel and was uploaded 2 yrs ago...that person does not have any website info for that product so I am going to try and contact them and buy that channell since then my friend can put his website info on the video and get page 1 ranking thru that source. Now if the person that setup that video no longer uses whatever email they initially signed up under youtube with, can I somehow link to that video to help his ranking as well?

I know these are strange-ish questions but hopefully everyone understands what I am asking.

thanks,
JP

Have you tried using the Google link operator?

"The link operator allows you to find websites that are linking to a certain website. So if you wanted to see who was linking to HouseOfQuilts(dot)com you would enter the following into the Google search box:

    link:houseofquilts(dot)com"

Dude, no offence, and please dont take this personally, but if you don't know how to check a sites backlink profile, then perhaps you shouldn't be doing this at all.

      John has a valid point.

Anyway, you may search for SEO PowerSuite. I heard/learned this from one of our clients who's been ordering articles for his SEO clients for almost a year now. I believe it's free for download. Content Writing 360° is not affiliated to it, however.

Well I appreciate the answers. My friend is 70 and got ripped off by being charged $5k for a information only site without a shopping cart. I paid for the private warrior forum to be able to learn since if you know no informatino the best way to learn is to pay and then ask questions from people who are experts and know how to do what you desire to learn.

Since I am not charging him and just trying to help him while at the same time trying to learn as much as possible. All of my posts have been questions to learn how to do something, or to get a program to teach/assist me in how to learn. I previously did not know anything about wordpress and have since gone thru a few training programs and now know enought to add some basic seo to his site and have been able to show him and make simple changes.

So while some may think "I shouldn't even be helping him", well I am trying to learn which is what we all should do in life. If someone has any other programs or training info that will "teach" me all the things I am supposed to already know, please update here or PM me. Seriously, I do want information to be able to teach myself which is why I am a member of this private forum.

thanks in advance for any learning information you can provide.

Well thats exactly how I learned SEO was by helping out someone. Specifically my brother. To check baclinks, use ahrefs.com, backlinkwatch.com, or download the free version of seospyglass and that will tell you too.

To build backlinks, I'd go to the WSO section and find gigs from providers who are providing high quality SEO services. CeasarSEO is one and there's another guy I can't remember right now. But just read their salespages and you'll see they give some incredible advice about recent changes in SEO and how they're doing their backlinking.

I just wouldn't expect anyone to pm you because its not worth it for most people. Its A LOT of information to explain to anyone. My advice would be start a blog immediately on blogspot.com. Start posting articles every 2-3 days and be consistent with it. Get profiles on every social media site possible, and link your site in these profiles.

The same articles you post on your blog, submit them to article directories too. There are really a million ways to get backlinks. The important part is to JUST DO IT and be CONSISTENT with it. When you first start out. Its a bit of a headgame. You feel like all the work you're doing isn't going to pay off. I was building links slowly for my brother for 3 months, then one day his site moved up to page 1 and I can't tell you how awesome that felt. It was a bit of a PITA getting it off page 2 and onto page 1 but the key is really consistency imo. Just stick to it and never give up.

    Good luck.

ps. Keyword research is really important too. The last thing you want to do is target any keywords like "health insurance" so use googles keyword tool and make sure you're not targeting high traffic keywords. I like staying under 4 - 5,000 searches a month. But thats just me. I also target a lot of long tailed keywords too some that only get around 80 searches a month. MANY of those keywords are easier to rank for, and convert even better. So keep that in mind. Never go into SEO thinking "I'm going to rank for my biggest keyword and make a fortune". Its a terrible strategy destined for failure most the time. Especially if you're new and have no idea what you're doing.
