Is it safe to put Adsense on these type of sites? I mean there isn't much text based content on such sites, mostly just pictures. If Adsense is bad idea, what are other ways to monetize a meme website?

I would say it's just fine to put adsense on these type of sites as long as your traffic is good - if you're getting google traffic, all the better but chances are most of your traffic would be social in nature so your CPCs might not be that great because you aren't very targeted in your subject matter.

*pure opinion, i've never used adsense on a meme type site

Technically, it's safe to put adsense on it. However, in order to serve contextual ads, Adsense bots need to read text to determine what a webpage is all about (google bots cannot read/understand images). Picture/meme websites would give you a low RPM.

You don't know how any googlebot works. It's not just by text on a page.

Adsense can be put on any page that follows the rules.

Besides, with a meme site, who wants ads for memes?

People have no clue about how advertising works.

Did you see any football companies advertising during the Super Bowl?
Why not? I mean you were watching football, right?

I kept seeing one for opioid constipation.....yeah...like that's football related.

Funny how no health care ads for concussions.....now that would have been related.

You advertise to the people watching...not by what they are watching.

Just what I said, ad are personalized by google using browsing and search history of an individual

That said, meme websites in my opinion can only be monetized by putting ads, what platform you use is up to your really. There are lots.

The one thing -if you get a lot of mobile traffic there's some ads you won't want on your site. I tried one once and on my smartphone the ad looked like a virus warning and was trying to force me into buying some cellphone antivirus app (which is complete BS) - I personally wouldn't visit a site like this ever again from mobile

    Hello Aika7,

Adsense is usually the way to go in order to motenetize a meme website.
However depending on your visitors' demographics and traffic, it might be a good idea to promote some kind of affiliate product or service. (e.g. paid mmo games, guides, software etc)

I think it would be great if you created some sort of $10 dollar e-book that shows the secrets of creating a great meme. That is something I would probably buy. Only a few memes are great.

Also, that would keep people from leaving your website for another one.

Great idea, but I think it is wasted on a meme site. People come there idly browsing from facebook or some such places. They won't be marketers, they'll be people who share and like to see fun stuff.

About contextual ads, doesn't google serve ads according to your browsing or search history? IE ads targeted to you personally? I looked for something on alibaba recently and now all my ads are about "sourcing electric heaters from China" and stuff like that.

No cant use adsense on meme websites but few authority meme websites already using like 9gag etc because they are authority they are premium adsense publishers then could do whatever they want to do and as premium adsense publishers they will never ad their codes to porn or low traffic websites so google also supports them. But for low traffic meme websites with adsense google will not tolerate them. You can even check on applying for adsense using meme website with lower traffic, google will never accept adsense application for the same.

    Do you own the images?

The answer would be NO, you don't own the images.

Image sites aren't the problem, the problem is posting images on your site that you don't own. It only takes one complaint to ban your account.

All you had to do is read the Adsense policies & you wouldn't be guessing.
