just wondering if placing the following code in the header will get my sitemap recognized?

<link href="http://domain.com/sitemap.xml" />

PS I Dont want to use a WP plugin or place in robots.txt file. I'm just looking for a quick line of code I can throw in the header of my HTML doc so engines can detect my sitemap file.

Thanks a lot!

    No, this way your site map won't get recognized.

    Since the main reason of sitemap submission is to notify the search engine's crawler to craw your web pages, if the crawler can come automatically then what is the worth of submitting sitemap.

    To get your sitemap recognized to Google or other search engine, the best thing is to log in to Webmaster tools of respective search engines, and submit it over there. So the search engine bots can crawl your site.

    Reference your sitemap.xml in your robots.txt file (called sitemaps auto discovery)
