Newbie Back Links Problem

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie to SEO and IM in general. I am trying out a niche to get my feet wet and try to learn a few things right now. I have done some article marketing and made a few sales. Now I am trying to focus on back links. I have done some social bookmarking but I am having a lot of trouble with the blogs and forums posting.

I don't seem to be able to find many blogs without 'nofollow' and all the forums seem to be almost fanatically opposed to even discreet links in the sig in useful, non-spammy posts. I have a feeling some of the difficulty might be my niche, which is World of Warcraft. I picked it because I have played the game but it seems very marketer-unfriendly. I know the gold seller spamming is a factor in this. Its made people with WoW blogs and forums very defensive I guess? I have a second niche in mind that is a bit more mainstream and less techy/geeky (although WoW is getting pretty mainstream I guess, with 10 million subscribers). Will I have less of this problem or do I just need to spend more time looking? How do you all find places to post and comment?

The best way is to hire some one who is already working on that niche. It will be very useful as you can spend more time in something much more productive.

      Hi, thanks for the responses.

To be honest, my IM career is at too early a stage to start to outsource just yet, although soon I hope! Back linking would certainly be something I would probably outsource asap since Im am pretty much at home with tthe article and content writing parts.

I am already doing articles and social bookmarking. I get weird results from this in Google. I had some good ranking for a couple weeks then I slipped a lot except for some really obscure long-tail keywords and the tool to check links in Google Webmaster doesnt seem to show most of them. Yahoo says I have 30 backlinks but Google says only 9. Both seem really low. Thats why I want to get some good forum and blog links.

Good Backlinks don't come for cheap. Cheap not entirely in terms of money but spending of your time to get those backlinks.

Blogs/forum posting/SM does help but if you want to get into SERPs quickly, then it is good to mail the webmasters of the same niche and ask for link exchange.

Also, you can submit to various directories especially the ones with good PR.

Link exchanges don't work very well for Google rankings unless they are one-way links which are very hard to come by. However, good articles can give you very valuable one-way dofollow links. There are a lot of article directories that still allow dofollow links. Just make sure your articles are (or at least sound) educational, don't try to make a sale in those articles and you'll soon see people picking up your articles for their blog or personal sites! Target as many related keywords as possible too.

Also when you post your articles, make sure you bookmark those article pages as well.

Another thing you can try is posting very helpful and targeted 150+ word posts on forums, they won't frown upon your links in the sig if you really look like a helpful person.

You can even ask other blog owners in your niche to give you backlinks in exchange for articles you write for them

All of this involves quite some work but will be a good learning experience for you

      Wishing you success,

I did 1/2 of the first pack, and had several pages increase. I have one very challenging 3 word long tail to get yet - but I will.

I got some deeper blog pages [redirects actually ] up on page one for a couple terms. Which I was pleased with. The thing is - its a mother of a time vac her way. it works and I do it too, but for speed ... oi'

Im kinda partial to another method now though.

Target keywords with lower competition for quicker results with less links. The niche I'm working ok right now I managed to rank on with just a couple of hours work because I chose easier keywords
