Do you believe in this?

Recently, I read an article: Every Marketer Should Be Technical | SEOmoz

Is that true? Do you really need to know programming to be a SEO expert?

Let me know what you think (along with your SEO experience please so that we can know a bit about you)

  • I think some technical knowledge makes it easier to understand how SEO works and let's you do a lot of things by yourself. But I think what's more important is your willingness to learn. I'm self taught in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. My boss didn't provide me any training for this. I studied on my own because I was naturally curious and I believe it could help me with my job. I can't create sophisticated websites but I know enough so I can talk to developers and programmers and understand them. I'm able to collaborate with them better because I can tell them what in a language they understand.

Another thing that I think that's important for every marketer to have, in addition to technical knowledge, is creativity. It's hard to invent something new but you can always improve on old things. And that's the same with marketing. Learn about the techniques that are available and understand them. Once you understand the marketing techniques, you can always modify them to make it work for your business and your customers.
