No longer rank for brand name

Since March 2012 my site which has been around since 1998 no longer ranks for its 2 word brand name at Google.

The odd thing is that if you don't put a space between the 2 words it ranks number 1.

Do you think this is an onsite or offsite issue?

Traffic is what you need to rank your website. The most effective and best ways to get traffic are writing unique and fresh article, social bookmarking, blogging, video creation, forum posting, article marketing, press release, blog commenting and use of social media.

  • Digga123,

Its hard to say what your issue is or if it is something you are doing (or not doing). Where do you rank now for the phrase with a space? Could it be that another website is just outranking you because of activities they are doing? You could also look to things you have changed on or off the site? Have you done anything that could cause it to be penalized or be less relevant to the phrase?

The fact that the site is showing up at number one without a space isn’t surprising. When you enter the phrase as one word into google, you are essentially telling them “find me documents with this word in it or something similar”. It makes sense that your site would show up for that because the brand name has both those terms in it (even though they are spaced apart). You will notice in other multiple word searches or even if you combine words, that Google will return documents that even just have part of the phrase. If you can post a link to your site I would be happy to look at it.

    Best,

    Shawn

Its sounds like you got hit with a penalty. Did it drop in rankings slowly or just overnight?

May possibly be anchor text, although I've NEVER had a brand name drop in the SERPs. Go through your anchors and check your brand anchors. I'd like to see brand anchors around 30-40% of the time.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!
