I was wandering.. i see people on fiverr etc selling google plus votes.
If they are (and i am sure they are) from fake accounts.. does that bring anything positive to your website, does it have any effect at all on your serp rankings?

tnx

  • Good question supereek,

At its most basic level, Google Search Plus your world gives users personalized results based on things their networks have plus oned around the web. So if someone you are connected to clicks the plus one button on some blog post and then later you search for content that is similar to that found in the blog post, Google may serve that page to you because your connection endorsed it. The idea is that people you know are better indicators of what you might find relevant than your keyword analyzed by an algorithm.

That being said, for a fake account, I’m thinking that plus ones might not bring in any additional traffic because the fake account would have to be connected to real people. The plus one count may increase but if no one is following those accounts, then no one will be served results that the fake accounts have endorsed. Of course the proprietors of this business could get real people to follow the accounts however I’m skeptical that they would actually go to those lengths.

I think any social network can really benefit the SERPS, however, if you can get something to go viral with your link attached, over the social sites, you can be sure to see some insane traffic. : )

I don't buy google+ votes because I've seen to many people warn against it.

I'm still not sure how justified their warnings are however. Because I have bought facebook likes on fiver and they definitely helped me a lot. One of the sites I did, I ordered the likes over a year ago, and every single one still shows up. As far as if they did anything "positive" for the site, absolutely. Literally the first week after I got those likes, I saw a small, but long lasting improvement in conversions. Its social proof, and it may not boost traffic, but it does boost conversions. Which for me, is more important than traffic.

The problem with google+, I heard its too easy for google to track. Again, I'm not sure how true this is because I've never tested it, but I'm definitely more paranoid about gaming google than I am with facebook.
