Index page in Wordpress when using silo structure

I new to SEO so forgive me. I have a domain which is unrelated to my niche but generic. I am using Wordpress and attempting to follow a silo structure. I am looking at my main keywork to be on my home page. As I set it to the static page in Wordpress and it is my index page the keyword does not show up in the URL

Eg

Www.mywebsite.com/keyword becomes just www.mywebsite.com

Will this affect my rankings because the keyword is not showing in the URL of the page or can the bots still see it ? Would it be better to use a generic home page then my main keyword will stay in the URL because it will no longer be my index page ?

That's not a problem. Keyword in the URL isn't very important anymore, I think the only use of it is to let google know what the page is about, but you can quite easily do that with the content on the page.

Personally I think having www. domain . com/keyword looks tacky anyway. I've never used it.

I am assuming your site is a single Wordpress installation.
Under Settings > General in your admin backend, there are two parameters Home and Site URL which you can set to whatever you want. There are many ways of setting these values. I am not sure which one will be appropriate to you depending on your circumstances. This post on wordpress site should give you a better idea.

Your question is valid but it is controversial. Ask 6 different IM'rs and you'll get 6 different answers. My experience tells me that yes, it makes a difference having it in the index page URL, even with the recent changes de-emphasizing EMDs.

Not having your main keyword in your site's URL doesn't mean you can't overcome others that have it. But you must nail it with quality content, on page SEO, and precise User and robot site navigation. Keep the concept of "latent semantic indexing" in mind when writing your headings and titles. Mix it up somewhat but keep it focused on your main keyword. This will overcome not having your kw in the URL.

If you are constructing your site with solid silo structure as you said, then you have probably leap frogged over most of these constraints and should be okay.
