Using stop words in domain name - good or bad?

I'm thinking of building a Q&A and guide site and got a good domain name matching my keyword. But it have the stopword "what" in front of the keyword. However according to Google Adwords Keyword Tool that broad search (what keyword) gives the exact same result as the keyword alone (maybe because Google ignores it).

So my question - is using a stopword domain good for this purpuse. This is a .com domain and all net. .org for both this and keyword alone is registred but not in use to I think the competition is low.

Or do you think it would be better to modifiy the domainname with a search term that actually gives some hits/traffic such as "visit keyword"....

    Forget about optimizing your domain name based on your keywords. Branding is the way , I don't know what is your site about but buy something catchy and user friendly. It's far more preferable than any EMD or PEMD and it's far more cheaper and easier to find.

      Good advice here. Start building brands not EMDs. It has so many advantages. Its more cost effective to build links to your authority page than to individual niche sites.

      So true.. You can of course add any words for your site to look better for VISITORS, NOT for SEARCH ENGINES!

    Couldn't agree more. Domain name that have exact keywords in them inspire distrust and feel cheap to real people, more than before. I wish someone could do a study, but we already know people prefer brand names than knockoffs and trust them more, in RL. It's not so different with domain names.

    Its not domain name but site content and services which will increase your traffic. Exact domain name helps but not much in keyword is competitive. You can go with domain name which you have got and try hard it make it interesting and attractive (which is not easy of course you will definitely get success

    I do appreciate your thoughts and help, however in this matter the stopword is actually a part of the brand. So my question was more related the technical pros and cons of using a stop word in relation to a keyword. It will not look spammy since the stopword "what" is a major part of this website idea (q&a)...

    I think stop word in domain name is not a big deal, If you have good marketing context then you will go for banding other you should go for SEO, I will prefer branding over SEO. But this is all depend on nature of your website theme. Either you can go for branding of SEO.
