How to Check if Site is Penalized

What's the most efficient way to check if a site that you do NOT own is penalized in any way?

When you don't own a site you can't check things such as sudden drop of traffic, WMT bad link message etc. - most likely you also don't know the main keywords the site targeted so that you can check if that site ranks for those keywords or not.

    search on Google for site:yourdomain.com - if it returns any results, then you are not under penalty. Otherwise, yes you are under penalty

    I just want to add something... This site:domain.com works if ONLY your site was first indexed in Google. If your site is new and it's NOT indexed by Google robot, you can't use this method! Because no matter what you write, you will NOT see your domain in SE!

    To check if site is banned or Penalized for banned

    you will see that your website doesn't appear in search whatever keyword you use.

    to check if you are Penalized is simple type some keyword which you have most in website with your website name for exmaple

    my site is Videos , Watch Free Online Videos | Lixup and if i type lixup bollywood songs in google lixup is my site name and and bollywood songs is a keyword and i appear on top. so this shows that i am not Penalized by google.

    sometime other websites have more page rank then our site so they come on top but do not worry if you page is in first page

    solution
    1) Avoid any activity that does not add value, is a short cut etc.
    2) You will know you are penalized because your traffic will change instantly in one day for the worse

      It most likely means that your site has been penalized by Google. their algorithm might have changed (many people observed that after Penguin and Panda updates). But it may also mean something else, like organic search changes.

      if the drop is very significant, you may use tools like Majestic SEO, Link Diagnosis (linkdiagnosis.com), or SEOmoz linkscape, to determine whether your site has over-optimised keywords.
      just do a site-wide anchor text analysis using any of these tools, and see what you have got

    I see huge drops a lot more common since all these updates the last year, its usually a ping pong effect up and down then back up again. Usually if that is the case its probably from weak links.

      This checks only if the site is banned from Adsense or not and the site is indexed in Google or not..

      So it is mainly for two things, Adsense and Google index checking..

      But it may be that your site is indexed in Google and it is penalized too.
