Duplicate content?

Hi. A month ago, i showed a guy that i thought was my friend one of my websites. Now he ripped it and uploaded it to his own site and it got indexed before me! So he got the exact same text and design as me.

His site doesent have any backlinks though... Im currently getting backlinks to my site so i hopefully can rank and index it.

So will google punish me for dupe content and i have to rewrite everything?

      What kind of signals are you talking about? Social?

      Although, Google has invested a lot in figuring out a mechanism to understand who creates content first, but in a hypothetical situation, if the crawler hits and indexed the content from this "friend's" site first, your website would be seen as a copy. It is very difficult to rank copied content in the longer term, no matter how many signals you have for support.

      If only signals (whatever types you are referring to) would decide who ranks higher between same content sites, all spammers would just index new content as it springs up on popular websites and will get busy building these fake signals to rank better.

        I had a "friend" like that once.

        Your content is pretty much lost I think...one thing that consoles me when people steal some of my content, which is pretty much daily, is that those thieves do not have any originality to them, although they can steal your content this time, as you create more content and continue to develop your website, you will always be ahead of them.

        Make sure to submit all new content as quickly as you can with the "Fetch as Googlebot" tool from now on as well as adding a +1 and other social media shares, you may also want to submit your RSS feed as an additional sitemap. Also try and put a link to your own website in every new text, so if they automatically steal from you they will unwittingly be adding a back link to you as well.

        One guy pissed me off particularly badly one time, and I went after him legally, he was out of business that same day, when his web host, who I sent a cease and desist letter a DMCA take down notice, as well as an original unedited image of one he stole from me to prove I created the content, decided this guy was a high risk user and banned him.

    so sad because when Google will crawl your url then Google can be punish your site for duplicate content it is good to change your content and write a fresh content and then directly submit your url to the Google Webmaster Tool.

      I don't believe Google will "punish your site for duplicate content" more likely they will just not show it in the search results because they already have that post available on the other site, but fresh pages should get indexed just the same.

      If the other guy takes his website down, eventually Google should start showing your page in the results again.
