Hello,
I do have a website where the features of my products are different while the benefits are the same.
Let's say I'm selling cars, The same car, same features, what varies is the color

examples:
Ad1: A nice Red car that has 3700 cc, ABS, Automatic, and Accelerator
Ad2: Powerful Yellow car that contains 3700 cc, ABS, Automatic, and Accelerator

and so on ............

(I have no idea about cars, so ignore the weird specs plz  )

So when I write the content I write the same specs of the product again and again.

will google see this as duplicate content? If yes, What's the % that my content should be unique?

PS. Canonical tags won't fix my problem

  • Don't worry about it at all. Google doesn't care about duplicate content, and they have explicitly said that.

When writing content for your site (whether it is product descriptions, news posts, or anything else) your ONLY concern should be whether or not it is benefiting your actual human visitors. If it is, you're golden even if it is 100% identical to another site. If it isn't, you're doing it wrong, even if it is 100% unique.

    Good luck!

Google DOES CARE about unique and quality content. The kind of duplicate content that Google considers "okay" are legal boiler plates such as the Privacy Policy and Copyright pages.

If and when Google gives two thumbs up for duplicate content, that'll be a cause of a major disaster in the history of the Internet. Imagine how many marketers will just copy and paste somebody else's articles that are closely or somewhat closely related to their niche or topic. For all we know, we, marketers, will try to save up to the very last centavo, as much as possible, if we can get what we want/need for free or somehow close to it.

    Hi,
It’s a major problem for E-commerce sites. There are Thousands of products available and also many products are same functionality although colors are different.

I think it can be solved by two ways:
    1. By using canonical tags (You told "Canonical tags won't fix my problem")
    2. Otherwise you have to write different contents for different colors.

Google will identify that the site is a listing of items, similar items will have much of their description in common, that is not what duplicate content is all about.

Move on and worry about something else.

  • I just remembered that I wrote an article about this a few weeks ago for a site I write for (I don't own it so no advertising or anything). It discusses duplicate content, and at the end you'll see a video from Matt Cutts who, if you don't know, is the head of search engine spam at Google. If anyone in the world knows what does and doesn't cause the 'Google Slap' it is him.

Matt Cutts: Duplicate Content is OK in Some Cases

    I hope this helps.

I think you ARE in danger of duplicate content issues the way you've described your setup - albeit related to cars and not your niche subject. I also think you've mixed up the concepts of "benefits" and "features".

First and foremost you'll need to make sure that your site architecture and structure is optimised and won't leave you open to on-site duplicate content issues. If your product is Audi cars and you're creating a different post/page for each colour of an Audi R8 then your site layout is wrong. Get this right and duplicate content does not become an issue.

If you are creating a new page for tiny variants of a product (like colour, for example) then you are setting yourself up to fail.

To get rid of the problem you are facing... I generally hire writer team having 40-50 members and i ask them to dont ask one person to write my all articles instead have many doing research and write them on different given titles etc like that...
