Duplicate content question

Hey warriors,

So I have a google news website. Sometimes authors submit "news" that is already listed on other websites. I know this won't help me much because it's not unique content but will it hurt me??

Should I delete the news articles all together and go through that trouble? Or should I just let them be as is?

Here's the place for discussing SEO Adsense / PPC / SEO Discussion Forum

Are they submitting exact copies of articles from other websites or writing them from scatch?

Also, that's "syndicated content". Duplicate content is when you have more than one page on the same website with the exact same content.

If your are publishing a part of the original story (say up to 300 words) and send the traffic to the original sites for more reading, then there should not be any problems. I saw many of the content sharing and bookmarking sites doing this way.

No matter if authors submit the whole original article or a particular paragraph from the original article, it is still considered as duplicate, you have to edit the text even if you send the traffic to actual site.

Just avoid duplicate content. Search engines such as Google are very particular on providing quality and valuable content to the readers.

Those particular duplicate pages might not rank as highly as others on your site, considering they are copies from other sites. However you should do fairly well with pages that have original content.
