    Thanks
If you put 5 pounds of dirt in a 10 pound bag, is there still 5 pounds of dirt?

Start over & stop counting/stuffing words.

Keywords Density is so 2005 lol Just write good content for the user so people will read it. Google has progressed well beyond keyword density. There are so many other metrics to identify trust factor of a site.

Well nothing was done with the intention of keyword stuffing but it happens to br we carry a fair amount of certain kinds of products in a niche so naturally the word is used a lot.

On some online seo tools it noted the word may look a little spammy tho that isn't the intention. So this idea was maybe by removing or changing alt text it can lower the count a little, etc.

Either the page is stuffed with keywords or it's not. Adding other keywords is only adding more text, the stuffed keywords would still be on the page.
        • How much text do you have on the page, is it a short product description or a long article?
        • How many images are on the page?
        • Have you looked at the Google Cache (text version), does the page look over optimized?

It's for the home page that I'm looking at - the products do have lengthy descriptions to them.

The home page has more images than text probably cause it's a online store. It does have some text though explaining about the products.

It could look a little over optimized since the keyword density is around 4.56% at the moment. It is possible when we add more types of products (which were looking to do) it can help make it look a little more varied to search engines and have more keywords in there as well.

Is it a static Home page?

Since each product has an image, why not only have a product title + product image (for each product) on the Home page? Next add the descriptive keyword alt-text to each product image (on the Home page). On the internal product page have the full text description.

      Example: http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Boots/1937/subcat.html

Ya the home page is pretty much like that. The alt text isn't written but it has the full time and product description is when you click on it.

Don't worry much about keyword density.

As long as your article sounds natural you should be fine with just a few keywords sprinkled in there.
