when to start building links

Hi Warriors, I have a domain i have owned since 2006, i put content on it in 2006 but deleted the site 18 months afterwards, I have just put up a few pages and am not sure when to start building links, any suggestions?

As my main site got hit by the big G i thought that a aged domain was the correct way to go, I have also just purchased a PR 6 domain that i am thinking about 301 to this aged domain?

          After OP create a back links and people come to his/her site and see freaking content. And they decide not to come back huhhh. Henrich is right make your site with worth content first.

            No, Henrich has no idea what he is talking about and he is wrong.

            Do both.

            People waste way too much time making their site perfect, and then wonder why they are getting no traffic.

            I'm not saying build links to blank pages, but obviously the site is up and functional. So start building links. You can always improve the content and the site along the way.

    Well, you can start building links but at the same time I think that your page needs to be updated as you've said that you put content on 2006 and its just way more older. So, change the layout design as well as the content according to the recent trend and you are good to go again. Think it like previously the people interest were very much different and now the its different so in order to fall under the current category, there is a need of some upgradation.

    Thanks guys for your help will start of a slow link building campaign, my site is only a 5 page portfolio site so wont put too much content on it, then start adding a blog section

      I always start building links on Day 1. All I put on-page is:

      1) Header
      2) 300 words of garbage content related to the keyword
      3) Authority outbound link
      4) Youtube video

      That's all it takes to rank.

      Then I throw a backlink or 2 or 3 at the page. Then I can see if it will actually rank. No sense in creating a perfect site if you targeted too hard of a keyword.

      When you get to page 2-3, then start to refine your content.

    As soon as possible, but not before you have a strategy what you will promote, how you will promote and what you want to achieve. First ask yourself, why you want to build it anyway...
