Setup Adwords Campaign

What would be a reasonable price to have a pro setup an Adwords campaign for my company?

The more I look into doing it myself, the more I see that one tiny little mistake will cost me more money than just paying a pro to set it up right with the proper keywords and everything else.

To be really honest, you'll need to spend thousands in order to get proper results so I'd say at least $1,000. If you don't have the money, try using another advertising site and buy ads on popular sites in your niche.

Is that a 1 time fee to have it setup and then let it go on for long periods of time? Or is that a monthly fee to have it maintained?

I believe you choose the time period and prices differ for different amounts of time.

It really depends on the scope of the project. Could be anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars to set it up.

From there, you don't want a company that just sets it up and disappears. You want someone to manage it. I don't care what anyone tells you, it will need to be tweaked. What works for a real estate agent in New York, will not always get the same results for a real estate agent in Dallas. The markets are different even within the same field.

Monthly fees are going to vary again based on the scope of the project. Most companies I know of, and the way I have always done it, charge a percentage of your monthly ad budget with some kind of minimum worked in.

I wouldn't recommend this, they are going to charge you at least 15% of your monthly budget on top of the already ridiculously high ad words cost and they don't usually guarantee any results.

Short answer, it will be costly but very dependent on the vendor and your project.

If you go with an advertising agency they will charge you an initial setup fee, the lowest I've ever seen is $2500. I've been working for advertising agencies for years doing exactly this for businesses.

Then on top of that you'll be charged a management fee which is usually a percentage of spend 10-15% of you're monthly ad budget. Some agencies do charge flat monthly fees and most have minimums. The lowest minimum monthly I've seen is $2,500.

A less expensive option is to go with an independent consultant. This is where you'll find pricing in the few hundred dollar range.

              Hi Electrical,

You are correct, the typical mistakes that a new advertiser makes generally costs far more than what it would cost to pay a professional to set it up properly. Even if you plan to manage the account yourself, it can be worth it to get a good start by paying for an expert to setup your campaigns for success.

Please bear in mind that it is not just the initial setup that will require expertise, there is also a period during the first few months that needs a lot of testing and tweaking to get the data needed to optimize the bidding, test various market segments, value propositions, and landing page variations to get the most out of your ad campaigns. While you can do all of this yourself, consider learning these things under the tutelage of an expert to shorten the learning curve, and save on many costly mistakes.

In the end, if you are successful, you will need to bring in outside help, or train in-house staff to take over your full-time duties of managing marketing campaigns. Finding a good PPC manager is the only plan with long term viability for a growing business, though you can do this task yourself in the interim, if you have the time and inclination to become a full-time PPC manager.

There is no such thing as "ridiculously high" AdWords costs, only profitable, or unprofitable ad costs. Prices for ads on AdWords are set by a competitive auction, so if your costs are ridiculously high, then you have a problem that other AdWords advertisers are not experiencing.

Your post seems to indicate that you could benefit from a true AdWords expert with the knowledge to get inexpensive ad costs. Most can do this for a fee that is a fraction of the profits you can gain, provided you are hiring someone with the experience and knowledge to go up against the competitors within your niche.

I realize that you are offering an alternative to AdWords, but no need to mislabel the competition as "ridiculously high" when an inexperienced marketer is just as likely to lose money on any alternative ad platform if they do not execute a marketing plan based on a proper marketing strategy.

The OP's question was about the costs to pay an expert to setup his campaigns, which is a smart idea. To suggest otherwise is like a snake oil salesman suggesting a sick person avoid seeing a doctor, or a real estate agent suggesting that you avoid hiring a real estate attorney, or a fund manager suggesting that you avoid the advice of a financial adviser. You see what I mean? Sure you could save that expense, but will you be better off in the end? Not likely, unless you already have the same expertise of those professionals you are bypassing.
