Is it necessary to have the alt tags for all the images that I use. Does not using it have any negative impact on my search results even when I have done the other SEO parts correctly? I am very confused about it. Please help me in this regard.
Secondly, if you take a look at this link 3 Free Sitemap Creator Tools In 2014 - Zerodollarblog.com, you will see that the images aren't very clear. They are blurred and do not appear fresh. I took the screen shot, copied it in Paint and saved it as jpeg format. When uploaded that's how they look.
One thing I did was manually adjust the size by stretching the arrow edges. Is this a right way to do it?
Or are there any software that will allow me to have clearer and better images? The current ones are degrading my efforts

Understand one thing google can read text not image thats why we need to put alt tag to describe crawler what is that img all about. so its always better to use alt tag and target keywords in alt tag too.

Alt Tags in your images if they relate to your keyword can be very valuable.

As abhijit12a says, Google cannot read images only text, hence why people do it.

It does not reduce the effectiveness of your images, but enhances them in the eyes of google.

Photoshop is a great tool but it can be expensive and difficult to learn - there are cut down versions of photoshop that are simpler to use and you definately don't need the latest version unless your a graphic designer :-)

    Hope this helps.

    Hey,

I would suggest that you use alt tags in your pictures because that is a big step, in on page SEO, that will fully optimize your site for your chosen keywords.

Also, you shouldn't stretch the pictures by the handles because it does distort them. I recommend saving your image to your desktop, right click, and edit your images in Paint. You can set the pixels to perfectly resize any image.

    Hope this was helpful!

Each image needs an alt-text keyword, otherwise your forcing Google to guess what your image is about.

You can't stretch a raster image (JPG, PNG) larger than the original pixel width/height or the image will get blurry. You can reduce a raster image all day long & the image won't blur. That's image editing 101 stuff, which could have easily been found searching Google.

If you had a vector image, you could scale the image as big as a building & still have a sharp looking image (no blur). After scaling up a vector image simply save as a web friendly format (JPG).

BTW, a HUGE image will load very slow on the web, the bigger the image, the slower it loads.

Alt tags are good as it lets Google know what the image is about. Google has no way to know what the image is unless you leave an alt tag.

Thanks everyone for the efforts to clear my doubts. Alt tags for images is now clear to me. But I would like to know if using Photoshop will solve the problem? Incidentally, I am learning the software for 2 months now. So, it would be easy to further work with it. I would not like to use vector images.
    Thanks
PS. Is there any option to save the images in Photoshop for the web?

The best software to save images for the web ( to reduce file size ) is IrfanView with Riot plugin..( in my opinion ).

My alternative to photoshop is Photoscape. Lightweight, simple and intuitive. You can take clear screen shots and edit images peace of cake. I'm using it few years now, never had a problem. They are Both Free..

If you want your images to be better quality save them in PNG format.
