Hi Guys,

I got some great advice yesterday regarding my post SEO versus Adwords.

I mentioned that my new WordPress is going live this weekend. I have been working hard on SEO using Yoast and one thing I may have neglected is the number of internal links I have created throughout the site.

I can soon get to work on this but before I do, I just wondered how much value there is in internal links.

Internal links are more valuable than anything that Yoast does.

  • Remember to think of the user when creating them, don't just throw some links at your keywords.

Internal links aid the flow of link juice throughout your site and help other pages on your site rank higher for their target keywords. Proper internal linking is an on-page SEO best practice.

Internal links are a critical element to make use of. Not only do they distribute link juice to your internal pages, they also keep your visitors on your site and improves the user experience. No reason not to make good use of internal linking.

This is probably not that important. You just want to have clear navigation through your website to the top pages. That is generally enough for internal linking. You don't need some fancy plugin that sorts through keywords in an article and links you to some other article you have on the site.

Hopefully my competition is reading that...

It's like buying a Ferrari & being stuck in a traffic jam, might as well bought a Ford Focus, lol.

Seriously, internal links are just as important as external links.

Why play around ranking one page per keyword when I can rank 2 or 3 internal pages per keyword with the same amount of external links. If the #1 SERP position has traffic the 2nd & 3rd position will also have traffic (per keyword).

Then you have things like Sitelinks which are based on internal links, that's 4-5 free links in the SERPs per keyword for very little work.

Internal links are important to both visitors to your site and to search engines. Both of whom will use them to navigate your site. As both visitors and search engines will navigate your site using the same internal links, you need to find the right balance between creating internal links for visitors and creating them for search engines.

Your internal links are everything to you. But, those links can't be just links with anchors taken off the top of head. Those links must create a skeleton of your website structure, skeleton based on solid KW research. So, it's a bit more complicated than it looks. BTW, Yoast is just a plugin that helps to place meta data. Thanks to Yoast you don't need to dig in the code, that's all it does.

Long time ago, I only build backlinks to my homepage. But sub pages ranked high also with no backlinks. So my homepage pass link juice to sub page. That's importance of internal links.

Internal linking not only help bots in crawling, indexing and spreading link juice but it also helps users to find new knowledge resources/topics in which they might be interested.
