If this is along the lines of Squidoo, weebly, wordpress.com, etc. You can start with 150 words but it is probably worth adding some content later to make at least 400 words....

Yes - the index will update to show your changes. On some of my sites it has taken over a week but I have had it happen in just a few hours. New backlinks will usually help to speed up the process.

Just to add to the posts above. A full blown sitemap is not that important with a small site but you probably do want some type of internal linking using the keyword you are targeting for each page.

You have probably already done this but check your Setting > Privacy and make sure "Allow search engines to index this site" is selected. It is usually that way by default but not always.
