That depends on what your looking to sell. I sell off facebook increadibly well but the poduct is suited to facebook. If you to create a fan page on the product and drive traffic to it then that could work.

I think it depends upon your timing and the type of product you are selling. Maybe last year that product may have had more demand, but its not that wanted anymore.
If that is the case then you'll have to attract customers who're actually looking for this product. you can do this by running an add on relevant blogs.

Your last year's post was probably better.

Newfeed ads on the other hand could be optimized. You can literally start a few hundred of these, and only keep the good performers.

  Since we don't know anything about niche, your audience, or your product that's probably the best you'll get. And even if we did, I doubt anyone would be able to say for certain which is best. Run tests with both and see what works for you!

I used to prefer "like ads" but when facebook shows a post of mine to only 1% of my likes/followes why should I pay to increase my likes when they are "useless" (meaning they wont' see my posts at all)

So page promotions for me all the way as of now

What were you trying to sell this time around? Are you sure your Facebook fans would be interested in that specific type of product? You need to poll your fans to determine what type of products they would be interested in buying off of Facebook.

Oh I agree, you need to make sure that there is sufficient demand for your product. Along with taking a poll, you can spark discussions in your niche related groups and see the response you get too!

Instead of just boosting the post, use the facebook ad Power Editor.
You can make ads with the goal "Post Engagement". This works in the same way as boosting a post, just that you can choose your targeting, bids, etc etc.
Much more targeted than just clicking boost!
