So I created a new post which directs to a certain article on my webpage. i decided to do a post boost to increase my no of viewers. In two days i get 1000 post reach and 200 likes. But when i open my google analytics account i only see 4 page views. I don't understand. Why did my post get so many likes if no one clicked on the link to my page and read it. Should i not advertise on Facebook and instead on ad-words. I am very confused. Help me, i am very new to markting.

    Mahos,

    First, a few questions:

    • Is your website mobile-friendly?

    • Did you set your Facebook post boost campaign to only be displayed in the news feeds of an audience of desktop users that you'll target using your own parameters (instead of the default selection, which is all fans and friends of fans)?

    • Did you include an attention-grabbing image, an enticing headline, a compelling description and a suitable CTA (call to action) button for your boosted Facebook post?

    Now, for some relevant numbers:

    • According to Nearly half of Facebook's users only access the service on mobile | VentureBeat | Social | by Harrison Weber --

    QUOTE
    In July 29 2015, Facebook revealed that it now has more than 1.49 billion monthly active users, 655 million of whom only access Facebook via a mobile device. That means 44 percent of Facebook's active user base literally never touches the service via desktop.
    [/QUOTE
    ]

    At this point, here are some of my assumptions:

    • Perhaps your site isn't mobile-friendly;

    • Perhaps you selected the default Facebook post boost option for fans and friends of fans only, in which the numbers above point out that many of these users may be spending time in Facebook with their mobile devices;

    • Perhaps one of your targeting options is to include many countries / cities where there are more mobile users than desktop users, which is the case in many developing countries;

    • Perhaps you didn't include an attention-grabbing image, an enticing headline, a compelling description and a suitable CTA button that points to your article (Facebook provides CTA buttons like Learn More, Visit Now, etc.); and

    • Perhaps there's a problem with your targeting parameters ...

    Without more information, I wouldn't be able to tell what really went wrong and how exactly can you avoid this in your future Facebook post boosts ...

    Well that's a point, my website is not very mobile friendly. I also haven't used any images for the ads but I have given a good description and headline. I have also targeted people with certain interests. But what I don't get is why people would like something without actually reading it.

      It happens all the time. It can be frustrating. Look into making your site mobile friendly and next time you boost a post, make a graphic to go with it. We are visual creatures and putting a decent looking graphic isn't hard to do, just takes a bit of time but can drastically increase your success - possible shares, engagement.

      Yes, people do that all the time, even outside Facebook, in real life. People nod their heads, say "yeah, that's good", smile and say things they don't really mean. I notice all the time that the friends of my friends in Facebook like their posts even if it's about depressing news and serious problems ...

      Fix your site. While you're at it, integrate Facebook retargeting code and Google remarketing code into all pages of your site. This way, you'll be able to create custom audiences with the Facebook users and Google users who visit any page of your site, which can allow you to use these custom audiences as the target audiences of your Facebook and Google Search & Display ads in the future. Also:

      Include images (or, better yet, videos) in your Facebook page posts, especially those that you plan to boost. According to the source I linked to, almost half of Facebook users go to Facebook using their mobile devices, and mobile users in Facebook are more attentive to attention-grabbing images and videos than text. Plus, because of their small screens, many mobile users don't read, but just skim through text ...

      Fix your targeting. It looks like you targeted people who seem to be using their mobile devices while they're in Facebook, who don't probably pay attention to posts without attention-grabbing images and videos, and who don't seem to like reading text very much ...

    Michael Fuentes & jogunn,
    Thanks for your help,Michael can you clarify your statement "integrate Facebook retargeting code and Google remarketing code into all pages of your site".

    Moreover i have been reading a lot of horror stories on Facebook advertising. I even read about agencies who are hired to get likes, and like a lot of irrelevant adds to do evade Facebook fraud detection systems.
    Some of the people liking my post DID have a fishy liking history.
    since I am new I don't have much budget to invest on advertising. Hence i have to wisely invest my limited money. Should I temporally not do Facebook ads and stick with ad-words?

      First, here's a step by step guide on how to get your Facebook retargeting code, along with informative details on what Facebook retargeting code is and how you can benefit from using it: The step-by-step Facebook retargeting guide

      • If your site is on WordPress, then this free WordPress plugin can help you quickly and easily integrate your Facebook retargeting code into the pages and posts of your site: https://wordpress.org/plugins/invisible-optin/

      Second, here's what the Google remarketing tag is and how you can benefit from it: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2476688?hl=en

      • If your site is on WordPress, then this free WordPress plugin can help you quickly and easily integrate your Google remarketing code into the pages and posts of your site: https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-remarketing/

      First, invite the users who liked your post to like your Facebook page. To do this, just click the button that will show who liked your post. Another page will load. In this page, there will be a button under each of the names of those users who liked your post. Click this button so as to invite them to like your Facebook page; and

      When they like your Facebook page, the posts that you'll be publishing in your Facebook page will be displayed in their news feeds ...

      Second, just allot a budget for testing your Facebook ad campaigns, which won't break the bank and leave you in a complete state of poverty, and you'll be alright. This platform is useful in my experience when it comes to app installs, getting Youtube video views and posting job ads, though this varies for each country / target area / target audience ...

      Third, if you do things right with your Facebook PPC / PPM ads and post boosts, especially the ad itself, your targeting parameters and matching ads to target audiences, then you'll see better results -- In my experience, I don't worry about useless likes, since I get better results, though I still get 'em useless likes ...

      Fourth, if Google Adwords is working much better for you, then by all means, scrap Facebook and focus on the things that actually work for you. Just keep in mind that Google Adwords can be more expensive than Facebook advertising ...

      Just ping me via PM if you need more help about this, and I'll respond whenever I can ...
