WhatsApp rolling out new search functionality features

As social network activity turns more to messages, Meta has already stated its aim to capitalize on messaging business opportunities, such as Click-to-Message advertisements and other direct connection tools.

This drive will also extend to WhatsApp, allowing more businesses to operate on the world's most popular messaging network. On that note, during the first-ever WhatsApp Business Summit in Brazil today, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a new update that will allow WhatsApp users to search for businesses - by category or name - directly in the WhatsApp UI.

WhatsApp explains:

"We've built business search in a way that preserves people's privacy. What you search for is processed in a way that cannot be linked back to your account. To start, we're bringing the ability to search for a business to Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, and the UK where people can find companies using our WhatsApp Business Platform. In Brazil, search will help people find small businesses as well."
That might provide a significant boost for organizations trying to utilize WhatsApp as a communication tool - and with WhatsApp adoption on the rise, particularly in the United States, this may become a much more essential concern.

Because, as previously said, people are posting fewer updates to social feeds and more to private DM groups. According to Zuckerberg, social feeds are rapidly becoming discovery platforms, and with that in mind, people may be more inclined to engage with companies in their DMs as well.

At the very least, adding WhatsApp as a connection option is certainly worthwhile, and these new discovery components, once completely carried out, may provide more impetus to build a WhatsApp presence for your business.
