Is anyone on Google Plus? (anyone? anyone?)

I just started, and I'm amazingly confused. In theory, it's supposed to be awesome for boosting SERP. And given that Facebook is now holding our fans hostage, G+ is looking more and more like a viable alternative.

Has anyone emerged as a G+ guru? Any advice on getting started?

I am on it. I am not a guru. To get started, my advice would be to play around with the futures there. I doubt you can break anything too easily. Lololol.

I love Google+. I concentrate on it more than I do FB or Twitter and I'm finding more success building my blog, because it's not as much noise there when promoting your blog/site/business.

Go and sign up for Google business page and it will walk you through it. Much simpler than setting one up on FB.

    Good luck.

Can you explain why you think this? Just that you think so helps no one. We all like details and perceptions

I have been a part of Google Plus for a few months now, and I must say that it offers some great networking opportunities for business owners. It was released last June and it has now become more popular than it was in it's start. Many business owners are finding that they can set up a business page and hold video conference meetings on their exciting new interface.

I thing I agree upon is that at least it does works as faster as a fb "like", coz you don't need to login? But I think it still needs quite some time to reach the level of FB.

Google Plus is a very nice SEO companion. A social Media designed by Google to compete with Facebook but failed.

Google Plus is a social network that currently has over 10 million users. Google Plus is also currently invite only, meaning – you can’t just sign up.

      Hi
I have been on Google+ since the beginning, but it seems like just another Social Media service that is not able to compete with Twitter and Facebook. It might have many users, but many of them are not that active anymore. I do still use it and share my stuff there because I don't want ignore the fact that it might have an impact on search results.

I've been thinking about going with Google+ as my primary social media with Twitter as secondary. I haven't used G+ much yet but I've heard too many good things from people about why it's going to hit the tipping point and be better than FB.

I strongly recommend to start using G+ along with traditional social sharing tools on your website. Setting up G+ authorship really improved my blog's click through rate on google's search results as well.
I noticed that posting something on G+ helps a new page to get indexed faster by Google +

these are some posts on SEOmoz ( I am not affiliated with this post in any way - I do find these posts highly useful and recommend everyone to take a look at them):

What I've found with google + is that you get the most interaction when you share things that you normally would on facebook. Google + audience is into, pictures, videos, and conversation. Not necessarily 140 character statuses like twitter, those get ignored, it's just about more engagement. But, I have also found it's good for SEO, which I don't too much rely on but I have been ranking for high search keywords when I update my status. Make sure your status is public, mines was set on private for a while before I realized it.

G+ is so much more than a social media site once you peel the surface away. Authorship as mentioned, brand optimisation, authentication, direct connect and schema tags are some of the key features that come to my mind when i think of G+

Then there that common question at the moment. Why is a search engine giant ramping up their social site and building search engine toolkits specifically for G+

I know im not waiting round to find out, i'll keep tearing it down till i get that answer.

Not a G+ guru but I do like it better than FB.. as another poster mentioned, a lot less noise. The fact that you can integrate so easily with so many other Google tools.. Circles, Hangouts, etc. is a big plus.. pun intended.

This may be a little long, (certainly wouldnt work as a tweet), but I'd like to try to explain the true value of g+ in terms of better SERPs

Of course it would be appealing to think that being on g+ would make g like you BUT the purpose of g+ is to help google.

Think about what google really wants. Most people online would say" to show RELEVANT results." Yes Im sure they want that, or at least to be known for that BUT g is now a huge public American corporation and like ALL Public corporations it has one single purpose that drives everything it does more than anything else. MAKE MORE MONEY!

How does google make money? By being relevant or by selling ads?

Google's revenue is driven, (almost exclusively) by their ad auctioning system.
Google is driven by their stockholders demand for more dividends.
So if Google pretty much maxes out the PPC in SERPs which was its core business model for the last 7 years or so, do you think stockholders are satisfied or do you think they want more?
    So,where does more come from?
In a search engine it comes from one or both of two avenues. Inventory and cost per ad displayed.
Laws of marketing dictate the price of ads by determining the value based on perceived return and the only way the price will climb significantly is to offer either more exposure (inventory), or a better return, (improved conversions),. They have found that conversions improve with things like geo-tracking, local results, personalization and knowing enough about each person to show more RELEVANT ads based on search history, site interaction and conversations in email and social media.

So for a long time now, google has been tracking the searches, the emails, the time spent on sites and conversations in SOCIAL MEDIA to determine what ads to show whom when. Have you ever mentioned on fb or twitter or g+ how you would be flying/traveling/vacationing soon only to find seconds later when you checked your gmail there was an ad for American Airlines offering some kind of discount/coupon/incentive if you book in the next 24 hours??

    {side note: if you ever want to know who important a link from a certain social site is, just say something about making a purchase of something and see if a related ad shows up in your gmail}

What google wants is to sell more ads and THAT IS WHY SOCIAL MEDIA NOW HAS SUCH A HUGE IMPACT ON SEARCH RESULTS and not just because you have an account in g+.

The trick to pushing your way up on SERPs is to be in places that can get an emotional response from like minded people then saying something that engages them.

You have to use google, ALL OF GOOGLE, realizing and accepting what google wants and then giving them that if you want top 10 in SERPs. Its not so much about what YOU do on g+ its what you can get OTHER PEOPLE to do that tells google what ads to show them.

You want to post things by accepting the same basic philosophy as G. You want more inventory and more conversions, conversions in this case being able to get people commenting or taking an action like liking or retweeting. Post often and post broadly on platforms where people like you hangout and do it in a way that gets other people to interact with you in a way that gives google a target

I' know this is confusing and is not conventional wisdom by any stretch but Ive been dominating SERPs for clients for 16 years and we manage some 100 domains every day. TEST TEST TEST analyze. thats what we do. And Im just telling you what we're seeing and what I think the reason is. So let me give you an example in the hopes it helps.

You post a cartoon of a man(stick figure), pulling down his pants and bending over. Then the title of your FB/twitter/G+ post says Fashionista asks Obama to give him a kiss. Then when someone opens it he sees the little stick figure pulling down his pants and bending over in front of a billboard of obama.
Not bad huh? probably get quite a few clicks. THE QUESTION IS --- FROM WHO???

We could assume it is likely going to be someone caught by either the word FASHIONISTA or OBAMA. Google LOVES both of these demographics! No more than other demographics but people that invlove themselves in politics are likely to be affluent and conscientious consumers. People interested in a fashionista buy over priced designer clothes!

So what if now we take the same ad and this time the cartoon has an arrow pointing to the pants that says Calvin Klein
And the caption says, would this man get a bigger kiss if he was wearing Armani or Gucci? Tell us which pants get more kisses
cartoon brought to you by -->anchor text link<

dont take my word for it, Try it yourself and if you get even 5 comments THE LINK YOU POINTED TO IN YOUR "BROUGHT TO YOU BY" WILL MOVE UP SIGNIFICANTLY

its not about where you say it. Its about who says what in reply .
in that light, g+ is great but so is FB or twitter or linkedin or pinterest or instagram or or or
