8 year olds get a million likes overnight

This is old news now, but I remember reading on Mashable about a band of under 10 sisters who put out a request for a million likes so that they could convince their dad to get them a puppy. If I remember correctly they got to the 1 million mark literally overnight!

I know plenty of people here would kill for results like those, but what can we take away from this? Was this an elaborate ploy or was it just a stroke of luck/genius. Even if it was luck, the spew of parodies that followed would indicate otherwise, because they also ended up gaining some traction .

    Yeah, this is definitely one of those things where the originator of the idea will see the most exposure, and then the first few copy cats will see similar results, and then it becomes mainstream with everyone trying something similar and it dies out. These girls definitely were lucky that their photo went viral and even got picked up by a couple news sources.

    Similar to this is the Harlem Shake fad that blew up allover youtube a few months ago. The first few videos received all the views, then everyone began putting up videos and couldn't achieve the same results as the first few.

    Now a days everything is a marketing trick on social media Same you will find in the MLM business, everyone starting with this.... A guy full of debts and living in a van, became millionaire overnight....so on and so forth
