Color Schemes

WEB DESIGN

The worst (for me) part of doing a new design or a re-design is picking the right color scheme! I'm doing a re-design for a copywriting firm (specializing in high-end sales/landing page copy), so I'm trying to decide on a color scheme. All their competitors use either the corporate blues (boring!) or the orange and black. All their customer avatars use orange and black or the blues. Seriously, it's so BORING!

What are some good resources for helping to pick a color scheme? Or, any ideas for something that's NOT orange/black or blue?

Alternatively, If you've got at least one colour in mind, hop over to Designspiration — Design Inspiration
and search via colour. It gives wonderful ideas on other complementing colours and uses

Hello hdantle,
The above links are very useful for choosing a color scheme. You can also use this Color Psychology, what do colors mean and represent to have a better impact on the web site's potential client. Psychology is very important for the visitor. Some color tend to work better on some service or products. It's always good to ask your clients opinion when changing colors before you redesign the whole website. Some time color picking seems like an endless loop!
