How close are Web and Graphic Design?

Hey - just looking for a bit of insight on this particular topic.

I am neither a web designer nor a graphic designer and I see myself having to heavily outsource both of these skills in the future if I'm going to continue my success in online marketing and grow my business. I think that the field of graphic design has evolved a lot recently, I've seen people actually drawing on special tablets or on their actual screen to create art and doing things that way.

I've done a little bit of work with websites but not enough to really build my own and my deficiencies in graphic design are pretty bad so I would need to get someone to do these things for me. My question is: how close are these two disciplines? Will a good graphic designer be good as a web designer? Should I hire two people or try to find one person that's capable of doing both tasks?

Can I hire them separately and what does that mean for me? I would have to spec out all of the graphics I want and that would required a little bit more input from me on the front end to create that outline. Do you guys normally work with a graphics person and someone that does web coding or find a person or company that does both? Let me know!

I am confused that this is a question. The two are vastly different.

A web designer is someone who is both creative and technically inclined, and uses both these attributes to build or redesign websites. The web designer has the ability to understand what is needed to make a website functional and easy to use, but at the same time make it aesthetically appealing to the user.

Graphic designers create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers. They develop the overall layout and production design for various applications such as advertisements, brochures, magazines, and corporate reports.

I use both a graphic designer and a web designer for a range of reasons - graphic designers work on a range of campaigns and web developers only work on websites.

While the web designer can provide assistance with the design for a website - personally I would usually get my graphic designer involved too.

As far as specs, there are two briefs as both talks are different.

You can find people that do both, however it is similar to having a plumber that is also an electrician as they are two different sets of skills.

I agree, graphic designers and web designers are two different things. Graphic designers are more focused on the images you place on your website and other image needs whereas web designers are knowledgeable somehow on graphic design but focus more on your website layout and function.

You can have a web designer who is also a graphic designer at the same time. Some web designers know how to do photo editing and manipulation as they also need to get some images incorporated into the web designs that they do, unless the images are provided by their client or employer.

  • Well, if you will categorize graphic designers, they fall under the Arts and Design while web designers fall under the Computer and Information Technology category. So you can see here, the graphic designers are more focused on the visual aspect while web designers are on the technical part. So I suggest that you get one of each to get most of the things you needed to be done.

A lot of people who sell web design also sell graphic and logo design what is strange about that. Design is design

There are many web designers who started as a graphic designer and then started to work as a web designer. I think that a graphic designer can become a very good web designer, since they already know how to create visual elements. Any person can become web designer, if they have enough motivation. Even if web designing is about technical aspects,it is not that difficult to learn web designing.
