WordPress Eshop Theme Design Advice Needed

I have a project that I need some design advice on.
The project needs an ecommerce store.

I like the CMS of WordPress. In doing some research, I find the features of the Eshop plugin for WordPress to be acceptable.

The question is: What are the limitations in the design capabilities of the Eshop plugin?

The niche is gardening/landscaping/nursery. You know... selling plants, fertilizer, greenhouse kits, mulch and even some information products.

I just want the design to look like a typical nursery.

Your advice on customizing Eshop plugins is appreciated.

I think that shopperpress ist much better than eshop, I tried it myself. There are a few templates and you can edit the design yourself of find a designer.

I see what you mean.
I looked on the internet for Eshop templates and didn't find many.

It appears that using wordpress for ecommerce is going to to require a custom design but moreover not many designers it seems are familiar with the Eshop theme.

I appreciate your comment.

The site is developed. Nothing to adding the plugin.

I am finding conflicting information from designers about the process necessary to design a Eshop template.

"developed site" / theme. The "conflicting information" you find from
"designers" might be in the fact that in Wordpress, themes and plugins are
TWO things. The design, the look and feel of the site is in the theme.
Plugins add functionalities to Wordpress. I have yet to see themes for
plugins.

Some consedirations might be taken into account of course when
developing the site with the chosen theme AND plugins.

*before* deciding to use eshop as a plugin.

One last thing, if you're talking about "the process necessary to design a
Eshop template", then surely that means that the site is NOT yet
developped... Your OP clearly stated your site is not developped, and all I
wanted is to offer a quick, powerful, hassle free and complete solution.
You don't need to tell me "the site is developped" to get advices, I'm here
to help mainly, because I like it, not just to make a quick sale

Hey Andre,
In my initial post I talk about Eshop being a plugin. I got that. I know how to upload a new theme via ftp in the wp-content/themes folder. I got that too.

I obviously mispoke when I said it was developed. I guess I should have said... I have the plugin installed. I couldn't have it developed because I am confused about how to change the design.

The problem I have is I am not a graphic artists, programmer, copywriter etc... I don't know graphic artist speak. Therefore, I am having a problem with communicating.

I am a customer... with cash trying to figure out how to describe what I want done without misspeaking in fear of another history lesson.

As a general contractor for over 30 years, if a person gave me a concept of what they wanted built, I could design it, make changes if necessary, quote the job and build it. The customer didn't have to know the "jargon" of the construction business to convey the concept. They didn't have to know what laminated beam, teco hanger or what 30# per square foot live load meant. If by chance they asked a question and I made them feel stupid.... my wife and 5 kids went hungry. I made sure I didn't do this.

In this business, at every step, not just design, if a customer tries to explain a concept...they have to know the jargon of your business or they can't get anything completed. I used "developed"... for example and was given a lesson that didn't answer my question.

I come here looking for answers. All I want to know is .... the process to change the design in an Eshop template.

Heck, when it comes to design you don't have to try to make me feel stupid... I got that down too .

Please someone just tell me hey stupid:
you need a header (xx X xxx) (default size in Eshop)
then you need to do this and this and this.
When you get that done you need to upload it to xxxx folder.
Hey stupid.. for $xxx I will do it for you.

That I get.

  The main reason I gave you these explanations was
  so you can have a clear understanding of the way
  WP works so you can have the right terms when
  talking with the "designers", that was intentionnaly to
  help, and far from me the idea of making you feel stupid.
  
  However you must agree then that some basic
  knowkedge of the right terms to use is important
  so both parties understand each other. Especially
  if you expose your needs/project in terms of
  material to be used instead of the concept you
  want develpped
  
  Back to my original offer then.
  
  You're right you shoudn't need to learn the
  language to have your concept built and designed
  for you. Just the platform to expose what you
  want. After 12 years online in development, I
  understood that right off the bat and that is why
  I offered my package. Because I know exactly
  what it takes, what you need, the time needed
  to do it and the costs involved... my package
  goes way beyond that because after it is
  developed you still need to market that site
  
  It's up to you.
  
  You may still want to continue discuss your needs
  here after all, no problem, but then there are lessons
  For example: ok you meed a graphical header of course
  but then the needed default size depends on the theme
  you choose, the design is in the theme, not eshop, eshop
  is a plugin. But then again, the width of the header may
  be adjusted to the size you want anyway. You see?
  But, ok, but after you know all that you'll still have to
  have it developped, no?

I greatly appreciate what your trying to do for me. But, I am familiar with building blogs. I have lots of blogs. I can upload and activate plugins for just about anything. My kids (5 from 18-25) can create a facebook, myspace, and twitter account quicker than I can type this note. This I got.

I am not familiar with the Eshop plugin. Specifically, the design aspects.

I know there are other plugins out there for using wordpress as an ecommerce site.
But I want to know the design answers about Eshop.

Here is where I am... nursery plants

I just want to know about the design aspects of this plugin and what I am up against.

Call it a learning curve.

Just came to me... I will ask at Eshop. Should be able to get answers there.

Haaaa, Jim now we're getting closer to the truth and the what you're
really looking at...

In your OP, quoted above, you'd mentioned the "Eshop plugin" so of
course all that time I was referring to the actual EShop Plugin found at
WordPress › eShop WordPress Plugins but it is not what you actually have.

What you have is a Eshop THEME then, found here eShop | Templatic
it's completely another story.

Now, still the question remains vague however because there no limitations
really for a WP developper.

So you may ask specific questions then.

Simply said, customizing ANY WP theme requires knowledge in graphics
design, HTML, CSS and PHP programming language that is all where could
be your limitations. A very long learning curve indeed

Templatic (eshop theme provider) will certainly suggest you hire a
developper to do what you want.

I got lucky and found someone who explained all of this today.

Whoo Hoo! . I also know how to do some of the work in dreamweaver. And what I don't know I know how to explain.

It is a good day..

It will be a better day if someone else who had a similar question learns from this thread.
