Can the permalink structure you use for your pages on Wordpress differ from your blog posts?

I'm transferring my static site over to Wordpress, and almost finished with the process (thank God), and was working on the permalink structure. I wanted to use the %postname structure for my pages (i.e. www.mydomain.com/contact for the contact page, www.mydomain.com/about for the about page, etc.) because it just makes sense, but I wanted to use a different structure for my blog posts because using the postname as the url for blog posts will tend to get too long.

Is there a way around this? A plugin of some sort?

    Your /%postname choice is best for both pages and posts. You can make your permalinks shorter by eliminating the words that don't count.

    Your title could have six words in it, but your permalink for that title could only have three useful words in it.

    Unless you have a news site, /%postname is best for pages and posts.

      Bill Stilwell said it best...although you can do this when publishing your post it is in your best interest to keep that long keyword rich URL. Long-tale keywords are goldmines without them you might only get the shaft.

    There are no plugins for this matter; however you can simply change the post permalink to whatever you want while adding the post.

    Basically, after you add the title to the post, click inside the write panel and then the permalink will appear below the title. Click on "edit" and change it to whatever you want there.
