Hello everyone,

I am trying to get graphic design projects started, by
using one of the stock photography sites, where you can
buy credits, to use their images. I am somewhat challenged
when it comes to understanding what I read.

If there are other Warriors here that use these websites
to acquire images to use in graphic design projects to sell,
perhaps you can explain to me what is meant by the paragraph
below from their terms of use!

I want to use some images from a website called DreamsTime.
They have low cost packages available. There is a section
under their terms of use I do not understand.

"Web templates, greeting cards or postcards especially
designed for sale, similar print-on-demand services, canvas,
t-shirts, mugs, mouse pads or any other items incorporating
the image in an essential manner, intended to be sold or
given for free, are considered redistribution (if the image is
used in an essential manner) and may not be created
using the Royalty Free license. Instead you will need to
use one of our Extended Licenses that grant you extra
rights. For Web use, you must not use the image at a width
exceeding 800 pixels."

Now I don't understand what is meant by web templates,
greetings cards, or postcards especially designed for sale,
similar print on demand services, canvas, t-shirts, mugs,
mouse pads, or any other items intended to be sold or
given away for free, are considered redistribution
( if the image is used in an essential manner)

Let's say I want to put together a package of assorted
blog headers using different images, would that be against
the website's terms of use? Or if I designed a web template
for someone, would that be violating their terms of use?

What does it mean by using an image in an essential manner,
and what does creating products for redistribution mean?

It all seems very confusing to me, even though they
it easy to understand and use their images. I certainly
don't want to violate their terms of use, but would very
much like to use images from their website.

Regards,
Debbie

    Debbie,
I have just read your post but I am sorry that I can't help out. I read the paragraph but it is also so vague to me. Are they stating that the image cannot be used in a product that you sale? So it's only for use in your personal or "free" products?
    It's confusing...

      Sher,

You can use them for items you sell. What I am confused about is what is meant by redistribution? Does it mean that one cannot produce let's say a package of like products. For example, if I wanted to put together a package of assorted blog headers to sell? Or sell web templates already made up and ready to go if someone wants me to create a web template for them.

Are they saying that if you use their images that you have to create something on a project by project basis? This is what I don't understand.

I have just finished offering a package of Holiday Blog Headers, using public domain images. I sold 5 blog headers to a package. So I was wondering if their terms of use
was saying I couldn't do that if I was using their images.
