They're both awesome, but I think Thesis is slightly better due to its design options.

You may feel customizing / editing Genesis yourself difficult. NO wonder both are equally awesome but Thesis has got more support and Tutorials can be found easily.

I have thesis, it's great for SEO. They do have many tutorials available, but if you want to customize it more than your standard menu selections then you will need to be familiar with editing the code and rearranging things.

Basically, if you plan to stick with the original style / default look of the site and just use the regular adjustments as outlined in their selling video it's a great fit.

However, if you want it to look completely different and have no idea how to edit your scripts and don't want to invest additional money in another developer to customize it for you - that could be an issue.

I like it for the SEO capabilities, but the extra customizing takes time and requires some knowledge beyond the basics if you don't want it to look like most of the other thesis themes. Of course you can buy a skin for it though also.

    And microniche flex

I preferred genesis to thesis. I got some geneis templates and mucking around with them in my spare time.

Basically I try to avoid any framework. Licensing becomes an issue when say you need to add to your second or third site.

There are some free / low cost theme creators available like say Atahualpa which does an equally good job.

Both are equally good and making a choice between two would not harm you in any way.

I think it depends on your goal. Both are good frameworks. Thesis is probably a little stronger in SEO, with the design being a little limited for the typical blogger. Thesis users have been waiting on that 2.0 update forever now.

I only got to try Genesis once, via a client's website update. It seemed fairly powerful but I didn't really get a chance to play.

Have you checked out Catalyst Theme? This ended up being my choice recently and so far I'm really impressed. Truly amazing framework and the support is second to none.

I vote for none of them. If you are into designing you need need something that you can resell. If you read the fine print I think you will find it is not actually possible. They only want you to promote their product and make them money.

That is why I went another way. And why we can do most any design that they can do.

Check out Web Crafter .us. I think we have way more flexibility than they do and our themes are almost made from complete scratch. Their is a special page for 'premium' themes.

I use thesis, elegant themes and themeforest themes. I prefer themeforest as they are very cheap with quality designs

Absolutely 100% Thesis. I bought this and it was the best decision I made. My site runs on Thesis and it is easy to understand, no on going costs and brilliant help at their own forum.

I haven't used Genesis, but I can tell you something about Thesis I don't like. If you enable WP Debug in your wordpress config file you'll see that Thesis generates a ton of error messages. Any good plugin or theme developer knows to develop with wp_debug on so you know your code totally valid and error free. I use Thesis on some sites and like it's functionality, but as a developer that makes me less confident in the product. I don't know if Genesis is that way or not, no premium theme or plugin should be IMO.

edit: it could be that Thesis just hasn't been updated since Wordpress 3.0 came out.
